|This is a remarkable car.|
Not only is it a completely original and unrestored vehicle in superb condition but it comes with an amazing collection of paperwork, manuals and magazines which documents its history.
Built in June 1960 and despatched to Holloway and Sons Limited of Worcester (whose original key ring is still present), the car lived in Wales for many years. It was subsequently purchased in 1984 by a chap in Birmingham who obviously saw the car as much more than everyday transport, taking it to the 1986 National Classic Car Show at the NEC where it won "The most original car of the Show" award, as reported in the July 1986 edition of Classic Car magazine, a copy of which is included in the history file. Since that time the car has been owned by a small number of classic car enthusiasts who have used it sparingly, as the mileages recorded on the 40 odd MOTs in the file confirm, maintaining it lovingly, and taking it to shows and rallies where it has continued to win awards to this day. The Rover P4 was a very strong and beautifully engineered car from its introduction 70 years ago, which is why so many have survived on the road until today. The ownership and history of this particular car is such that, unlike the vast majority of P4s, it has never gone through a period of neglect and deterioration requiring subsequent restoration. It won "most original car of the show" nearly 36 years ago and will still be a likely contender today!
The photos should show the beautiful condition of the car. It drives superbly. Whilst MOT and tax payment exempt, I will arrange a new MOT before it is sold. It has a full set of original tools in the boot and the lovely tray under the dash has every item with which it left the factory, including the two original containers of touch in paint. The original HMV radio still functions as it should, after the valves have warmed up of course!
The history file is large and very comprehensive. The original card registration document is present, together with the original Instruction Manual, a worldwide Dealership booklet, Rover Technical Publications Department Workshop Manual and Parts Catalogue, all lovely items in themselves. There is also the factory build ticket, original samples of the interior trim materials and a BMI heritage certificate to confirm the car's original specification. There are many invoices and receipts in the file which, together with the 40 odd MOTs already mentioned, give substantial details of the maintenance history and support the current mileage of 66000.
This is a lovely collector's car which is immediately ready to drive and enjoy with pride, show and win awards. In my opinion it is one of the very best and most original P4s available today. It is well known in the P4 Drivers' Guild and has been consistently valued considerably in excess of my asking price.
I should add that it is only because of changing circumstances that I have regretfully decided to offer the Rover for sale, along with one or two others from my small "collection" of classic cars and bikes. I would like it to go to another enthusiast who recognises the quality of these cars and who will care for it in the manner to which it has obviously become accustomed! I also understand that due to the current national situation things are less straightforward than usual, but if you are seriously interested then unhurried viewings are possible within social distancing guidelines. I'm in my late 60's so I'd want to be as careful as I'm sure any potential purchaser would to ensure that we all stay healthy. I may also be able to help make arrangements for delivery, if required.
I'm very happy to have a detailed and honest 'phone discussion with anyone who is seriously interested, and would much prefer this to extensive text or email exchanges. Please feel free to call me.
