Here is another of my Reliant collection

I bought this car from a man who had started to rebuild it, with a view to my finishing it and then giving it pride of place in my Reliant collection. I am selling it strictly as an unfinished project, but here is a brief resume of what he told me about it:

It is John Box's original number 1 prototype, and it is one of the first, quite possibly the very first Tempest, to be registered and put on the road in 1988.

It is registered correctly as a Reliant Tempest. (Apparently many of these are registered as a Fox or Kitten, depending on which chassis they are built on).

He spent a great deal of time and effort bringing it up to this stage and the work he did included:

Complete car dismantled and rebuilt
Chassis painted
Engine taken apart and rebuilt.
All new brakes, shoes, pipes and cylinders etc.
New springs
New lights all round
Wheels shotblasted and powdercoated
New track rod ends
Body and panels resprayed to a basic standard using a compressor and spray gun.

Anyway, his failing health prevented him from finishing it.

We like the character of the car just as it is, as it gives it a real old classic look, almost like something pre-War.

When I bought the car it started easily and we drove it up on to my trailer. It revved freely and sounded very nice. It has since been stored by myself in dry conditions. I started it again very easily this morning.

In addition to what you see I have the two side windows and the frame for the roof. Personally I think it would be better used without these, as I think it looks absolutely great in its present form.

It could take sympathetic cosmetic improvement and restoration to the interior and boot etc, up to the standard you require, and no doubt brakes and carb etc setting up and everything checked through, and will need to be put through an MOT but, as you know, good examples of these fetch around £10,000, so it represents a great opportunity to the right person.

I think it is a beautiful little car, and it really needs to be out on the road, with a picnic in the back.

It will need collecting on a trailer.

If you are interested in buying this magnificent piece of British Motoring History, give me a ring and come and take a look.

If you are at a distance you can get a quote for delivery from Anyvan or Shipley, but it tends to cost about £1 or so a mile. Our postcode is SS4 1HX. Or, if you like I will get a quote from a local delivery firm for you.

I do hope this goes to a good home and am just sorry that I didn't get around to getting it on the road.
