1959 MG A Twincam Superb fully restored For Sale
This is a fully restored and original US specification LHD Twincam that has been a joy to own and drive. Chassis YD3 971 lived in California throughout its life until 2012, when I bought the car there and imported her to the UK. This wonderful matching numbers MG had recently been the subject of a total restoration when found by me at a classic car dealership in Benicia CA showing just 1010 post restoration miles on the odometer. After arriving in the UK I had the engine professionally rebuilt with 8.3:1 compression pistons (a factory specification on the later cars) to cope with standard unleaded fuel and also took the precaution of fitting a rebuilt water pump. Since then the car has completed a further 6200 careful miles and remains close to concours condition throughout, having been used sparingly and always stored in an Airchamber. Unusually for a twincam the engine is completely oil tight, and has minimal oil consumption between annual oil changes. Oil pressure runs at 55psi when hot at 3500rpm and water temperature remains below 190F even on a long drive on a hot summer's day. All other mechanical and body components are in excellent and well cared for condition. The Twincam is a world apart from the standard 1500/1600 versions of the MGA and of course much rarer (only 2111 were ever made). The free revving engine and all round disc brakes make it a delight to drive. I would happily take this thoroughly "sorted" twincam on an extended continental tour without any concern for her reliability and always with a smile on my face! But my next project is to finish restoring my S1 E-Type, so regrettably the Twincam must go to a new owner.
