1968 The MGC GT For Sale
After the BMC decision to stop the production an further development of the very popular Austin Healy 3000 in 1967, the concept of an upgrade of the younger design of the MGB was born. The more modern in line 6 3l Austin engine as well as its 4 speed gearbox plus an electric overdrive as known from the upper segment Austin A90 was the choice for this upgrade. After shoehorning this powertrain into the MGB engine bay and designing a full new front wheel suspension, furthermore adding an adequate cooling package as well as mounting 15 inch wheels, the new MGC was born. The new car looked astonishing. My car, an MGC GT 1. Generation (March 1968), has been imported from the UK to the Netherlands. I had the opportunity to purchase it in in December 1989 being the third owner. The car features some rather unique options such as an original Webasto Sunroof and its windspoiler/sunvisor. The very well preserved car has been dismantled in 1991 and a full body and powertrain restoration was finished in 2000. We as a family have moved many times as well as our MGC GT did. In 2007 a second full body restoration took place. A full list of all new components, the total restoration work as well as many detailed images as well as all invoices are available. Complete photographic record of restoration with receipts. Over € 23.000 spent on restoration.. 15000 km driven since restoration. Restoration included: Complete teardown down to bear metal Full body respray, new front panels, new tailgate Engine strip down, overhaul & repaint pistons, rings, all bearings, valve guides Steering system New water pump New stainless steel exhaust New king pins, new front wheel bearings Replace interior trim, including door cards to match Refurbish wire wheels Four new Vredestein Sprint Classic 185/70 x 15 Replace brake cylinder and brake shoes Install & retrofit new brake servo Replace rear and front windscreen Install new radiator, hoses and thermostat Install new fuel tank and electric SU fuel pump Convert to single 12v battery New headlining, inner door panles, carpets Add stainless steel oversills MG gear knob The interior is still genuine with intact upholstery, a Motolita leather steering wheel, an original Webasto sunroof and a original plexiglass wind spoiler. The mileage is 114000 miles. It’s a RHD version. The car has been used many times over 23000 miles during its 32 years in my posession for small and larger trips such as visiting the Mille Miglia and nearly the total length of this famous race 3 times. Also the Alps have been crossed many times. During all these years the very reliable MG proved its unique combination of sportscar properties and comfort. The standard Overdrive in 3rd/4th gear underlines this even more. The car has French license plates as it has followed our movements and now stored in our French house. An import to the Netherlands can be arranged at any time.
