This E30 convertible is for sale on behalf of its long term owner.
1991 E30 1991 BMW E30 318i Neon Green Motorsport Design Edition Convertible
Low mileage (92000)
Low owners (current owner is third registered keeper and has owned the car for 12 years plus.
The last of the limited edition E30 convertibles, the Motorsport Design Edition was based on the 1990 facelift body and available in two colours, Neon Green, and Neon Blue, with a "distinctive" cloth interior available only in the Design Edition and now very, very rarely seen in good, undamaged condition. The colours and interiors were the only indicators of the limited edition versions. These colours and these interiors were not available on "standard" cars.
This car has been off the road for a number of years, though was, until a few years ago, MoTd every year and is offered as a restoration project.
Most importantly, it's 100% complete.
The desirable bodykit is complete and the all important interior is also complete, down to the, usually missing or damaged, rear speaker covers.
This car has the extremely sought after and genuine, factory fitted, M-tech 2 bodykit - the two piece boot spoiler is included, though not currently fitted.
The interior is in very good, undamaged condition and includes all the rare Design Edition parts.
I've been around E30s since the mid/late 1980s, bought my first in 1987, have had several hundred through my hands and owned at least one, and usually more, continuously since 2003. I've probably owned, sold or worked on nine or ten Design Editions, and seen many more, but I've never seen as good an interior as this one. They're renowned for two things - damage and lack of availability.
The car shows signs of corrosion in all the standard E30 places, base of the A posts, sills, transport pads, rear arches, boot pockets.
The dash has the obligatory crack.
Mechanically - as usual and as you'd expect from a low mileage example - it starts, drives, stops and steers well, but clearly will need some recommissioning.
The manual roof is in decent condition with no rips, tears or holes and the once ubiquitous, but now rarely seen 17" Alpina replica wheels are almost a period touch harking back to the turn of the century.
So, it's the archetypal E30 project needing work in all the normal areas.
You could fix it up quickly, get it MoTd and use it firvge summer, then restore it at your leisure, or you could dive straight in. It's your choice.
In terms of price, I am well aware that you can pick up a 318i convertible project for about £2000, so please don't message me to tell me that.
But if you take that as the starting point, and add in the current (utterly mad in my view, but there you go) value of the bodykit, and an undamaged complete Design Edition interior, and then factor in the low owners, low mileage and the Design Edition status, then, quite unbelievably from my point of view, if I'm honest, I do think you are getting towards the area of the asking price.
The car is in South Lanarkshire. More photos and videos will happily be provided.
