1991 Mercedes 300TE W124 *SOLD* For Sale

*SOLD - More Classic Mercedes available soon* Finished in 147 Arctic white with blue velour interior, 300TE benefits from an excellent specification and presents in superb condition throughout. The bodywork of this car is clean and straight, with no rust, parking dents or major imperfections to show that it’s nearly 30 years old. Pre-facelift W124s are much less susceptible to corrosion than later models as a result of better metal quality, thicker undercoating and thicker paint. As a result, all four jacking points, the inner wings, rear sub-frame mounting points and rear window ledges are in perfect order. Additionally, the rear window sills are in perfect order, and the car is totally dry inside. The soft close on the bootlid works and the car sits on 7J Sportline specification 8-hole alloy wheels with good Uniroyal tyres all round. Inside, the blue velour interior is a treat, no wear to the seats, perfect walnut trim and nice bright orange dashboard instrument needles suggest that this car was garaged for at least most of its life. It is also fitted with 4 power windows, power slide/tilt sunroof, illuminated vanity mirrors, 390mm Sportline specification leather steering wheel, leather gear knob, ASD limited slip differential and a Blaupunkt Verona radio and power aerial. Mechanically the car is very good, in preparation for sale it has been freshly serviced including additionally a transmission service, new exhaust, new HT leads, distributor cap and rotor arm and new plastic covers for these parts, as so often they crack and got brittle. The M103 engine is silky smooth and has much less potential to be troublesome than the later LH Jetronic fuel injected M104 engines. Having done 119k miles, this example still has plenty of life left. It has also had a refurbished fuel tank fitted as these often corrode around the filler neck on estate models and leak. Supplied new by Lancaster Europa Sheffield to a Mr Barratt of Holmesfield who kept the car until 1999 when it was traded in at Hatfields, the Jaguar and Chrysler dealer in Sheffield and then re-sold to its second owner, Dr Emery, on 25/2/99 having covered 56,000 miles. Dr Emery kept the car until 2015 and in that time predominantly maintained it at Lancaster’s and then at an independent in Sheffield. I first became aware of this car in 2015 when It was sat for sale outside a used car lot in Sheffield and naturally my eyes were drawn to the white TE, I stopped to look at it to be told that a deposit had been placed that morning! Somewhat annoyed to have missed out on such a clean example I forgot all about it until last summer when I bumped in to the owner at a petrol station. I was filling my S124 and you don’t see them too often these days, so we got chatting and I left it at “if you want to sell that car, give me a call…” Here we are and I’m delighted to be able to present this lovely example for sale. Good W124 estates are becoming increasingly difficult to find as a result of so many of them being used as load-luggers and workhorses for many years. The pre-facelift cars are also by far the best in terms of build quality and longevity, thanks to the use of higher quality metals and raw materials and the simpler engines and 4 speed automatic transmissions. It is unusual to find honest, clean, rust free, low owner examples like this car anymore and as time goes on the S124 will become more sought after; just as the S123 has. I’m firmly convinced that it’s the best estate car ever made. Please call for more information on this lovely car if you have any further questions. Viewings are available by appointment within the guidelines of Social Distancing, alternatively I can arrange for a FaceTime viewing to give as good a remote impression of the car as possible. Additional HD photographs can be seen at the following link and a walk around video can be sent on request. https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/albums/72157714328814697 N.B. The fuel tank has been replaced since these photographs were taken, and to do so I had to remove the tow bar. I think it looks better without, hence it has stayed off but it can come with the car or be re-fitted to the prospective buyer’s wishes. *SOLD - More Classic Mercedes available soon* Thanks for reading, Jack 07921252639
