1970 VW Type 2 Westfalia Camper LHD For Sale

This might be a bit of a change from our usual stock! But it is the coolest thing we have ever seen, and with summer around the corner, the beaches at Newquay are waiting! This is a 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia Camper "Rat Rod". It is rare in itself as a genuine Left Hand Drive Westfalia Camper and, believe it or not, has had nearly £40k spent on it in recent years! As readily recognisable as the immortal ‘Beetle’ itself and a cult vehicle in its own right, the Volkswagen Type 2 and its derivatives enjoyed an even longer period in production than their saloon progenitor. The original was conceived in the late 1940s by a Dutch Volkswagen agent, Ben Pon, who drew up plans for a van based on the Beetle floorpan and running gear. Known as the Volkswagen Type 2 (the Beetle saloon being Type 1) the result of Pon’s efforts arrived in 1950 and almost immediately proliferated into a bewildering variety of models catering for an enormous range of commercial and domestic activities. Engines grew in size and power while both handling and comfort improved as development progressed. By 1968, when the first major revision of this outstandingly successful design occurred, almost two million had been sold worldwide. This van was acquired by the last owner from Rodz 'n' Sodz Motors for £16,200 in 2016 and was subsequently treated to some £24,000 worth of fettling by renowned specialist Type 2 Detectives (who then valued it at £35,000) in brief the van has Narrowed front / rear tracks, Air Suspension, tuned Type 4 2.0 litre upright engine conversion, purposefully distressed cosmetics but much enhanced mechanicals. "Imported from California in late 2015 and first registered in the UK in April 2016 by a confirmed ‘Rat Rod’ enthusiast, this Westfalia Bay Window camper had already been part of that scene for some time. The new owner embarked on a ‘no expense spared’ overhaul commencing with the mechanical and structural side and careful examination of the invoices shows a total of around £24.000 spent with ‘Type Two Detectives’, acknowledged experts in their field. The conversions and mechanicals are done, the Van has a fresh MOT, and the time has come to finish the interior. As of today the Van's specs are as follows: Full Westfalia Interior Insulated, Pop Top, wooden floor New rear corners and sills New inner and outer front valance Front Beam Raised 7.5" Front Beam Narrowed 4.5" Dropped Spindles Front Tubbed 3.5" Rear Channeled Rear Narrowed 3" Fully Overhauled Beetle Transmission Trailing Arms toe adjustable at the torsion housing Uprated Shocks Radar Rims Air Ride with Gauges Viair 440 Compressor 5 Gallon air tank Fully Overhauled 2.0 litre Type 4 Uproight Conversion engine Porsche 914 heads Flathead Pistons Mild CB performance Cam European Motorworks Headers Magna Flow Exhaust All of the hard work has been done, it just needs the interior tidying up and you have one of the coolest, modified Rat Rod Campers out there! Please be quick if you fancy cruising this around this summer!
