|MG RV8 in Woodcote green with only 12k miles, 3 owners from new, great provenance and history and in superb condition.|
Hi and thanks for looking at my advert for this very special RV8, special because of its low mileage, low owners and lovely history. As you probably know the RV8 was a hand built car by rover between 1993 and 1997 as a pre curser to the MGF and a homage to the MGB. Just under 2000 were built and this one is chassis 1547 so 3/4's through the production run. The Japanese went mad for them when it was shown at the motor show and most of the production run were officially exported there. As with 1500 other cars this was originally exported to Japan and finished in the most popular colour of Woodcote green. It is fitted with the trusty Rover V8 engine with a 3.9litre capacity, official performance figure are:
0-60 time of 5.9 seconds.
Top speed is 135mph
This a very original car with all of its supporting documentation including Japanese book back, service book, export papers, heritage certificate and ownership history present. The speedo is still the original KM speedo and converted into miles this has covered a very low 12k. It has passed its MOT today with flying colours and is ready for a lovely post lockdown summer with its new owner.
First Registered on the 7th June 1995 in Osaka Japan. The supplying dealer was Rover Higashi Osaka and the first owner Mika Saito. The first service is stamped in the book and all the export certificates and translations are with the car. The car was used sparingly up to 2006 and always remained in Osaka, it was put into storage at that point with about 8000 miles on the clock.
Cedric Talbot purchased this car from a classic car dealer in Osaka. According to a statement in the history file from Mr Talbot this company stated that the car was a one owner car and was bought new by his brother. In may 2015 Mr Talbot viewed the car with 13,686 km on the clock, (just over 8k miles). The car had its original Michelin Pilot tyres on and was in excellent condition so after a bit of haggling he purchased the car and exported it back home.
On arrival back in the UK the car was registered on M804VGR fitted with a new set of Good year tyres (which are still fitted and as new having only covered 4k miles), changed the clutch hydraulics and various other parts to recommission after storage completed a service and put it on the road. After being off the road for a long period some teething problems did occur, most notably fuel starvation which turned out to be corrosion in the fuel tank, a common problem when cars have been in storage. This was replaced with a new old stock item from Brown & Gammons alone with a fuel pump and 4000km completed without fault over the next two years.
On the 25th April 2017 Mr Hibbard purchased M804 VGR with 17,500km (10,800 miles), from respected Classic car and RV8 specialists Nicky Paul - Barron. Mr Hibbard paid £19,500 which was top money three years ago and is testament to the quality and provenance of this RV8. Mr Hibbard kept the car for three years increasing the mileage to 19500KM (12,100 miles), before part exchanging it for a Porsche which is how I came to own the vehicle. Today the mileage stands at 20,202KM (12,552 miles).
The car has just over 12,500 miles on the clock and you can tell. The steering wheel is unworn, the seats are pristine it starts on the button and is in fabulous condition. I would go as far to say its the best condition RV8 I have owned. The usual problem areas for these cars are pretty much perfect on this one. The windscreen has NO corrosion, the rear axle and diff does not leak and is not whining and the seats are not dirty and worn. To be very picky there is a minor crack in the dashboard veneer and driver door capping. I must stress these are minor and do not need repairing. Also the door handles are slightly pitted, however a new set is supplied with the car if this bothers you.
The body condition is really really good. The panel fit and door fit is unusually good for one of these hand built cars, they shut with a very reassuring clunk. The paint work has a brilliant shine and there is no corrosion present. Again being picky there is a minor mark on the passenger front wing.
On the road the car is a delight, lovely noise from the 3.9 rover V8 and no scary noises. It drives in a straight line and the brakes pull up clean and straight. I would advise a full service and fluid change before regular use as this is due, but apart from that its just passed its MOT with no advisories and is ready to enjoy.
To summarise this is a really good example and stands above the rest because of its low mileage, low owners and lovely story. I have a MGB GT V8 just about to finish restoration so I am selling now to make room. Looking at the market prices I think I have priced it exactly right but I am willing to discuss this for a serious enquiry. I first bought an RV8 in 2010 for £10,500 and since then they have steadily risen in value, especially now when they have reached 25 years old and can be exported to the US. I don't recommend buying classic cars for investments as I believe they should be used but it is nice to know that your money is safe, If it doesn't sell I will keep it until next year when I have no doubt they will have gone up again.
Thanks for looking
