HISTORY – Like so many 911 from the period, our Targa example starts life in the United States before making its way back to Europe and arriving in the UK in September 1997. The UK MOT certificates show little use between 2007 and 2019 where, interestingly, less than 1000 miles has been covered. Unsurprisingly, this particular example was under the supervision of 4 UK owners during the cars 20+ year UK tenure before the final owner exported the car back to its homeland of Germany in 2019. Since being essentially “back home” the car has been subject to a sympathetic restoration which has taken 18 months to complete. The car is now ready for the summer of 2020 and awaits its new custodian.
EXTERIOR – The last owner was keen to offer the car with as much originality as possible, and was therefore intent on having the car freshly painted in its original colour of silver (code 936-9-3). The car now displays an overall even shine and has been nicely prepared by Kane Harris at JK Details. With so many 911 examples on the market, viewing is always recommended, but it really does make a change to see a silver car with surprisingly so few them around. The vinyl Targa top has also been recovered and fits neatly in place.
INTERIOR – The standard black leather interior is in good all-round condition with both front seats recently treated by our recommended preparer Kane Harris at JK Details. The Targa roof lining has also recently been replaced including all the front leather fastening grips. With a new dashboard cover also now in place, the interior is looking inviting for any new potential owner. The rear seats have been reupholstered with the majority of trimming work carried out by renowned Fm Autosattlerei Bernhard Schäfers.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – Porsche Deutschland have confirmed that our 1974 example has received a replacement engine number: 6340535 which is period and from a 911S model offering the higher 175ps output. The replacement unit has been completely overhauled including: piston ring set; chain tensioner; valve guides; fuel filter; fuel injection lines; injectors; alternator; gas springs; heat exchanger to mention just a few of so many parts that have been replaced. * Following the complete engine rebuild a European kilometer tachometer was fitted taking figures from the previous UK mile tachometer reading of 88k miles with the overall total believed to be considerably higher. Never the less, a comprehensive rebuild has taken place that will set the new custodian in very good stead.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – The widely recognised Fuchs allows are covered in Avon ZV3 – 195/ 60 R15 tyres with plenty of tread remaining. All brakes perform exactly as they should for the period.
