1975 Yamaha XS500 For SaleThis 1975 Yamaha XS500 is showing 25,858 miles on the clock and is finished in the popular maroon colour scheme. This was the most regularly bought colour of the day and remains the most iconic colour scheme for this bike. We were struck by the original condition of this bike which is unusual as many have been converted into non-standard bikes. This one should be capable of being brought back to its former glory and providing a low-cost classic which won’t be fast but it will be smooth (and rare). This bike runs and rides great and really can be a practical classic that's easy to live with. Parts are readily available from suppliers such as Yambits. Background The Yamaha XS500 was a four-stroke parallel twin which was first introduced in the early 1970s and produced until the late 70s. The motor produced around 48 horse power which was capable of propelling the bike along at over 110 mph. It was the smaller stablemate to the XS650. This was never a sports bike despite the double overhead cam eight-valve engine being happiest when above 6,000 rpm. It was, though, a smooth motor, driving a 5 speed gearbox, though reliability was not up to the standards of some other bikes of the day. This was because heat management of the motor was an issue which Yamaha addressed with design changes. The bike has not achieved the ‘cult’ status of some other bikes so prices remain reasonable for a perfectly good classic. Now quite rare they provide an option for those looking for something a little different.
