This delightful Chummy is well travelled! It was seen parked by the roadside by an American touring the Lake District in the early 1980's A note was left under the wiper and a few years on,in 1985, it was on it's way to Seattle! There it lived in some luxury, but regularly used, with several other Classics until 2018 when I bought it to bring it home.
Shipping from Seattle was not practical, so it had to be sent to California where it had to "titled" before it could leave the USA ... it had spent it's life in America on UK plates! On return to UK it was registered with the DVLA using it's original Registration number.
It ran well, but the 1970's restoration needed some "updating", so I rewired it throughout using correct armoured cables, fitted a matching pair of Rubbolite rear lights, Got rid of all the cross head screws and replaced the Headlights with rebuilt correct ones, Replaced the battery, fitted an in line fuel filter, rebuilt the handbrake mechanism, fitted new fabric coupling, relined the front brakes, fitted new king pins and track rod and steering arm ends. Repaired the canvas hood, copied a friend's AD canvas hood cover, had new leather hood straps made by a local saddler, put in new hood hinge pins, seat hinges, bonnet catches and floor mats, rebuilt the door catches
The car runs very well. It had been fitted with a Zenith post war 24T 1372 updraft carburettor (correctly jetted) and I fitted a new needle kit.
Wheels are good and tyres very serviceable.
The engine is coil ignition and has a DK4A distributor. It starts on the bacon slicer very well and has good equal (80psi) compressions on the the XL1253ED cylinder head. Radiator hoses and fan belt are all new. The engine oil has been drained and refilled with 30 grade straight oil. The dynamo charges correctly and the oil pressure is 3-5psi when hot. The radiator is of the correct honeycomb pattern.
The car is not a trailer is very good for runs to collect the paper or to the Station I have done easy 60 mile journeys The paint is generally very presentable and polishes up very well, but there are some minor blemishes (late 1970's paint after all!).The upholstery and trim date from the same period. The mileometer does not work, but the speedometer does.
Give me a call to come and try it. I will collect you from the station in Stratford or Warwick.

First Registered 20.01.1928. Built December 1927

A useful amount of documentation (including invoices for recent parts) is with the car;- 1975 tax disc, photo copies of export documents (insurance value in 1985 £6000!) and VE60 (old log book).Fun video on YouTube of the car "racing" an SS1 when in Seattle.
