Matching numbers Mk 2 Austin Mini Cooper recently restored to original specification and colours.
The Heritage Documentation shows it to have been manufactured on 9th January 1969 for the home market and despatched on 8th February 1969 to Car Mart Sales Limited London. Finished in correct Tartan Red with gloss Black roof, this Cooper is in its original shell with hydrolastic suspension.
A full professional bodywork restoration was completed in Spring 2020 with no expense spared, and accompanied by a photographic record. This included all heritage or M-machine panels including new floor, correct inner and 4 vent outer sills, doors, and bootlid.
The interior has had a full re-trim to original black vinyl specification including seats, carpets, door cards, dash rails, and switch panel. The headlining and sunvisors are correct and original crackle cream finish specification and a BMC two spoke steering wheel is present.
Mechanically, the original 998cc engine and gearbox have been rebuilt with +0030 rebore, unleaded cylinder head and new clutch. Breathing through refurbished twin SU HS2 carbs, with original Cooper airbox and new filters. The exhaust is a Freeflow manifold connected to an RC40 system. The engine pulls very well with excellent oil pressure. Brakes are rebuilt original Cooper items with new calipers, master cylinder and wheel cylinders. Suspension is the increasingly rare ‘wet’ hydrolastic system to original spec with all displacers in superb order. The original wheels have been refurbed with new 145 tyres and wheel trims. Other wheels are available, Minilites or Dunlop D1’s.
This genuine and rare Cooper comes MOT’d with a good file of receipts and invoices from its unmolested 51 year history with only 5 owners. Magazine featured and on the Cooper Register, it drives superbly and attracts attention wherever it goes. A truly usable classic and an appreciating asset in this condition which represents a sound future investment with all the work done.
