According to information supplied in 1995 by Mme Chapron, this car was delivered new to Geneva and remained in Switzerland until 2007. The first owner is said to have been an engineer working at Sécheron, the company specialising in electrotechnical materials and the manufacture of electric locomotives. In 1947, the car was bought by Richard Scarpellini and was registered GE-30195. The copy of the period registration document reveals that the car was already blue by this date. Scarpellini used his Delahaye for some time, before storing it in a barn where it remained for several years, and was discovered in 1987 by Claude Frésard. There are some wonderful photos, in the file, of the car being taken out of the barn, that show how well preserved and complete it appeared to be. On the point of opening a museum in Muriaux, in the Swiss Jura, he chose to display the Delahaye there and, four years later, he sold it to Jürg Heer, a well-known Swiss collector who embarked on a restoration of the car. In 1993, it came to the attention of another long-time Swiss collector, Robert Temperli, who decided to buy it, in its half-restored condition. Temperli owned, with his brother, six important Delahaye bodied by Saoutchik, Tuscher and Graber. In February 1993, he sent this car to Lecoq, to complete its restoration to the highest concours standards.
Once finished, the car participated in several events, including being exhibited on the Club Delahaye stand at Retromobile in February 1995. In September of the same year, it took part in the concours d'élégance de Bagatelle, in Paris, and was featured in the event's partner publication, Automobiles Classiques no. 71, in December 1995. The following year, the Delahaye set off towards Italy for the second edition of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, on the banks of Lake Como. Robert Temperli continued to use the car himself and finally, on 8 June 2007, this handsome Delahaye 135 was bought by its previous owner, a collector from Alsace.

In February 2018, it became part of the collection of its current owner, alongside an authentic Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Zagato and a BMW 507 Roadster, as well as some Bugattis. After buying the car, he had the engine completely rebuilt by M. Paillet, one of the leading specialists in these pre-war engines, while the gearbox was rebuilt by M. Rondoni, a renowned professional who needs no introduction! In all, some €80, 000 were spent to ensure that this magnificent Delahaye would perform faultlessly.
When we tested the car on the Col de Vence, we were able to appreciate its excellent engine with its marvellous throaty sound. The gearbox too was very flexible and smooth-shifting. But what really impressed us was the tremendous torque, the car climbing the pass with power and stamina, ease and precision. To make it more pleasant to drive, the owner has had electric power steering installed, which can of course be removed to revert to the original specification. But is clear that this makes for a most enjoyable drive. This is a Delahaye 135 Coupe des Alpes, with the marque's six-cylinder 18 CV engine in its triple carburettor version, with manual gearbox with floor-mounted lever. Henri Chapron had dressed the chassis with a Mylord cabriolet body, also known as a three-position cabriolet, as the hood has a halfway setting, leaving the front seats open. The wonderfully classical shape of this car features the traditional grille, framed by large headlights.
The restoration by Lecoq, which set the benchmark for concours restorations in France in the 1990s, has aged beautifully and its dark blue paintwork has a wonderful depth. Inside, the lavish wood trim complements beautifully the original, superbly preserved leather upholstery. The Delahaye 135 was a prestigious and extremely versatile car, just as capable of being the star at a concours d'élégance as on track in the Le Mans 24 Hours or on the route of the Monte Carlo Rally. The example on offer does great justice to the rare qualities of this desirable model, eligible for the most prestigious historic automobile events. It is a masterpiece of French coachbuilding with remarkable performance.
