1935 Alvis Silver Eagle SG Sports Tourer For Sale

First introduced in 1929, the Silver Eagle was much improved for 1934, gaining a stronger cross-braced chassis, larger 2. 4 litre 6-cylinder engine and a new all synchro-mesh four speed gearbox. The Silver Eagle shares design features with the Speed 20 and is good for a top speed of around 80mph with comfortable cruising at 60.

YS5691 was dispatched to Alvis distributors James H Galt Ltd of Glasgow on the 8th of January 1936 and fitted with a drophead coupe body by Cross & Ellis.

The car was purchased by the previous owner in 1988 and fully restored. The original body was not present, so a very attractive and lightweight tourer body was crafted by the late Ernest Constable and covered in period type fabric. A nice original Alvis folding windscreen was used and the hood frame made by Wessex Workshops. The result is a practical touring car which looks stunning and has an exciting turn of speed.

The engine has been rebuilt by Tim Walker Restorations and features upgrades including Reece camshaft and lightened flywheel. Other improvements include a spin off oil filter, electric fan with thermostatic switch and long range fuel tank. The all synchro-mesh gearbox is a delight to operate with easy changes up and down.

All major mechanical components are matching numbers.

The car is well prepared for touring, and has completed a number of long distance rallies such as tours of USA, New Zealand, Spain & Scandinavia.

Recent work includes a new set of 5 Blockley tyres, starter motor restored, manifold ceramic coated, carburettors overhauled, 2” sports exhaust, tappets adjusted, brakes set up, general servicing and replacement battery.

Accompanying the car is a large history box containing copy of original build sheet, restoration photograph album, invoice folder, handbooks and various publications from her adventures. There is also a box of spare parts & tools.

She is in fantastic condition, ready to be enjoyed and driven anywhere. A highly usable and reliable sports tourer, which easily handles modern traffic, keeps cool and holds excellent oil pressure under all conditions.

Offered for outright sale at realistic price, only due to reducing private collection. Please enquire for more photographs and to arrange a viewing.
