This is a 1961 Italian TV175 Series 2, one of three scooters I bought and imported from a collector in Greece. We believe this scooter spent most of its life in Greece. It was almost good enough not to restore but, sadly it had in its life been fitted with accessories that had been stripped but had taken their toll on the scooter leaving too many holes etc.
The scooter has been sympathetically restored back to its original colours and using as many original parts as possible. The original (brass) panel badges, brake pedal, fork links, and kickstart are all re-plated. As many original nuts and bolts, grease nipples etc. were carefully cleaned and re-used where practical. The engine has been completely stripped, cleaned and re-built using quality bearings and seals etc. The top-end is the original TV175 barrel and piston with new rings. The carb is the correct MB21BS5 21mm but with a BS7 float conversion to avoid the flooding problems apparent with the BS5 model. The engine has a new TV175 Meceur crank. The original exhaust has been cleaned (inside and out) and fitted with a NOS tailpipe. The only significant change from the scooters original specification is the addition of 12 volt electronic ignition and lighting. However, the original 4 pole points stator and flywheel are available should the new owner wish to convert back to true factory specification. The scooter has the correct Aquila Continentale “wide back” seat, with a new cover reproduced by Casa and retailed by Rimini. I’ve cleaned and added the original rear mudflap which is interesting and provides a link back to the scooters’ Greek heritage.
The scooter rides superbly, one of the nicest scooters I’ve ridden. Standard scooters are a joy to ride after kitted scooters, and this model is so smooth in its delivery and is surprising torquey and nippy. The aim of this restoration was to re-create a factory look and feel Series 2 TV175 without being overly “anoracky” and worrying too much about having to use some stainless fasteners.
