1977 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino For Sale
The GT4’s 2+2 layout makes for a very practical and comfortable Ferrari, with longer front-seat adjustment than the two seaters. By placing the front seats well forward, Bertone made room for two children in the rear, while the compact engine/transaxle package left space behind the engine bay for a usable luggage compartment.
The four twin-choke Webers make starting unforgettable too. Well it is a Ferrari, after all. As Ferraris go, the 308 GT4 is surprisingly practical, its classic status is growing and you’d have to be mad to argue with that 3.0-litre, quad-cam, all-alloy V8 punching out 255bhp. It gives this 1326kg four-seater a fair turn of speed and handling on the all-independent suspension is perfectly respectable, with a longer wheelbase than two-seater cars calming the potential for those scary mid-engined, mid-corner moments. You just can’t argue with the power, the noise, the handling or the heritage.

So here we have an original 1977 model built in right-hand drive and supplied new to the UK. Finished in Nero Daytona Metallic with vinyl & cloth upholstery, Bruciato carpet and fitted with air-conditioning. First registered on 1st August 1977, this 308 has been with the current owner since January 2014. It was put through an MOT test on 1 April 2020 at 66,467 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. An anti-roll bar link and driver’s seat fixing were attended to the day before. At the same time as the MOT test, the car was given a full service, cam belts replaced the carbs balanced and fitted with new carburettor insulator blocks, also a new oil pressure sender was fitted. The car has been used sparingly over the past eight years, the previous cam belt service was in March 2012 at Ferrari specialist Barkaways in Kent, at 62,249 miles. During this service, the tensioners were also renewed, and the fuel tank was refurbished. In October 2012, the front and rear suspension was stripped and all bushes and bearings replaced, and components were powder-coated. The complete clutch assembly was renewed in 2011 at approximately 61,000 miles, along with the coolant header tank. The brake calipers were overhauled, as was the starter motor and the steering rack. The carburettor diaphragms were replaced at 60,340 miles, and they were balanced and adjusted as needed.
Accompanying the car is the original handbook, as well as the stamped guarantee and service book. The stamped book shows the comprehensive servicing up to the late 1980s, there is also a large detailed history file with invoices and receipts covering the last 20 years of the car’s life. Just 547 examples of the 308 GT4 are understood to have been built in right-hand drive, which makes it almost as rare in this configuration as the Dino 246 GT. While the Bertone styling marked a stark contrast to Pininfarina models in period, it is rightly regarded today as a bold and well-packaged 1970s design.
An attractive and usable example with a nicely detailed & comprehensive service history, will classic Ferrari ownership ever be more accessible.
