|This 1978 MGB V8 Roadster is a seriously quick car and has been built by a professional engineer for road use. It was built as a touring car for long distance travelling in Europe and whilst performance is outstanding, it is an extremely comfortable car to drive with lots of torque and has a very impressive specification. The last owner purchased the MG in 2007 as a standard rubber car with some good history so we know it was a well-maintained car before being totally upgraded and modified.|
The MG was built for speed and performance, not cosmetics however the body was treated to an MGC bonnet, wings, door skins, sills, front and rear valances, a new hood and bumpers were removed to keep the weight down and give the car a more racing look. The interior was treated to new instruments, replacement seats and new steering wheel.
The MGB was fitted with a 4.6 Rover V8 engine with modifications to include an Edelbrok 4 barrel carb, bespoke high quality stainless steel headers, bespoke stainless steel exhaust, oil pump and all new hoses. The MG was also treated to a five-speed gearbox, new gearbox cross member, new clutch, new larger oil cooler, double core aluminum radiator and remote oil filter assembly. The rear axle was rebuilt with a V8 crown wheel and pinion 3.70:1 and new front and rear lowering suspension springs were fitted.
Further work included a new heater matrix, new brake lines, front brake discs, new brake lines, brake shoes, drums and slave cylinders and adjusters. The suspension was treated to new bushes, the steering checked and re-conditioned and the MG V8 was then fitted with new wheels and tyres - ready for Europe. Since completion, the V8 has covered 8000 faultless miles and is awesome fun on the road. It has ferocious power and performance, it sounds outstanding with a brilliant exhaust note and with a rebuilt upgraded rear axle and five speed gearbox, this is not just a car to push hard on performance, it's a fantastic long distance touring car.
Whilst not perfect on paintwork and detailing, it was built for serious road use and touring, not shows. It is one of those cars to jump in and drive anywhere, the Rover 4.6 V8 is outstanding and the MG is superb fun to drive and will not disappoint. WAY 401S has impressive running gear and modifications and should represent exceptional value when considering the value of the parts and upgrades alone.
