HERE is my 1961 Sunbeam Rapier Series III convertible. If you are reading this, then you will be well aware of their current values. Five-figure-fees appear to have become the normal. However, by the same token, those who perhaps follow my adverts will know that I offer fantastic value for money and that my prices, wherever possible, will undercut the majority out there. So, this Rapier drophead. Well, she has been with her previous owner for the past nine years and has covered just a handful of miles during that period. She has a current MoT (It ran out recently but has been given a 6-month extension by DVLA due to the current pandemic). That said, she does not require one by law in any case as most of you will know. She is a real eye-catcher of a car. Very straight and a great performer on the road. The very fact that her last owner went to the trouble of keeping her tested every year speaks volumes for the way he treated the Rapier. Her interior looks to be brand new and, as it turns out, she was totally re-trimmed around ten years ago. New seats, new carpets. Her red hood will probably go on for ever. There is a little finger nail of a rip on one rear corner (you would leave as is) and the rear plastic window is somewhat opaque although I have managed to improve it somewhat. Some minor paint imperfections are present around the car, mainly to the door's bottoms although they are only towards the front corners. They are not bad at all. An awful lot of sellers would not even mention such things. Anyway, I consider to be one hell of a bargain Rapier convertible. As I say, a great driver and of course so much fun! She looks strong underneath with some evidence of localised, properly done repairs. Decent chrome too. She is not a 14k Rapier drop head; she is a 7k Rapier drop head. So please don't expect me to be selling you a five-figure classic for my asking price. Floors are all solid as is the boot and the engine bay. As mentioned, she has a current MoT even though one is not legally required. She will bear signs of work over the years and that is why she is priced accordingly. If you want one which some nice chap has spent 10k on resto and is asking 18k in an attempt to get his money back, then this is not for you. If you want a highly usable, excellent driving Rapier convertible for a price which is less than the price of most pretty MG Midgets, then this is the car for you. Use, enjoy, tinker and improve! She is not a new car, nor is she a three-year-old used car. She is a piece of antique motoring history and, as such will have quirks and maybe even the odd fault. There will be imperfections of varying sorts and to varying degrees. But context is all and you get what you pay for. I do not sell 14k classics for 7k. These old gems - in this case 59-years-old - are sold as seen. Should you buy without viewing, then she is sold on the basis of the advertisement you have read, the photos, or extra photos, you have seen as well with the assistance of any answers to questions you have received from me. The description you read is my honest opinion of the vehicle. It may not be the same as yours. You would perhaps hate the site of my oft-repaired Georgian dining table whereas I love it. Treat these classics with the respect they deserve and make sure they have love, time and effort lavished on them. Even the very best need permanent on going care. Practically all will have undergone a degree of restoration work or improvement at some stage. If it's a three-year-old car dating from the 1960s that you are after, then you are out of luck. Short of acquiring a Tardis that is.
