Rudge Ulster Grand Prix, 1930. 500cc. Just rebuilt to a high standard and unridden since. Huge history file going back to the ‘60s, as well as books and manuals. It was raced in Germany for many years and came back to the UK some time ago. Here the right cylinder head was sourced and replaced the earlier one it had raced with. It has a foot change, using parts that were available in period from Rudge. The bike is very correct, and yes, it has always been an Ulster. Eligible for vintage racing worldwide, including the Goodwood Revival.

I bought it a few years ago at a Coys auction. I was recovering from a nasty illness, and I thought I’d be riding it when I was feeling stronger. Unfortunately I have not found the strength or technique to get it started. Part of the rebuild was a very expensive BTH electronic magneto, so I’m sure the problem is mine, not the bike’s. It saddens me that I have to call time on my Brooklands bike dream. I’m sure you will understand that I will not be open to offers.

Wanting a little practicality for road use, I mounted leather panniers. In them are modern bicycle lights that can be used in an emergency. The bags can be removed in a couple of minutes. I’m afraid the badges don’t come with the bike. It has it’s original registration, and the plate is sign-written by myself.

I had a comfortable brown leather custom saddle made. The original is with the bike, and could be refitted in a few moments.

Ninety years ago Rudge guaranteed 100mph for the Ulster. It weighs next to nothing, has huge brakes, and I’m sure it’s a blast to ride.

Come and take a look, and you might even get it fired up.
