1937 Rover 12 Six Light Saloon - 21300 miles and original For Sale

This is one of those exciting rare finds we love to come across. Not only has this wonderful, incredibly original Rover had just three owners from new, it has only covered an astonishing 21,300 miles in 83 years and is an incredibly sound, strong original car in excellent mechanical condition with a fantastic original body retaining completely original paintwork. DYU 438 was first registered on the 24th June 1937, supplied new in Green to a Mr Charles Gibson in Hove. The Rovers first owner was called into action in WWII and sadly never returned and his wife used the car on the South Coast for local journeys until she passed away in the 1960’s. In 1966 the vehicle was sold by executors to a Mr A.D Chamberlain, a garage owner in Monmouthshire. The Rover at this point had covered just 11300 miles from new but in 18 years of ownership was never driven. In 1984 the most recent owner in South Wales purchased the car with the car still standing on its original Avon Duo tread tyres. The Rover was very carefully re-commissioned, tyres were replaced, the cylinder head was removed for inspection of the cylinders and they were found to have no wear at all. Various gaskets were replaced, and the engine treated to fresh oil, new plugs, and points. The fuel tank was drained, fresh fuel put in the vehicle, brakes serviced, and it was ready for use having had many years off the road. From 1984 to 2020 a further 10,000 miles have been covered taking the mileage to around 21,300 miles. Over the years the beautiful original interior has been carefully preserved and treated, the leather is in lovely condition with no rips or tears and the original full tool kit is still present under the dash. The original jacking tools are still in place under the driver's seat along with a 1930's puncture repair kit. The original paintwork is still in place and has had lots of polish over years so much you can see the prima coming through prominently on some areas of the bodywork. The paint still buffs up nicely and the bodywork is totally rock solid with absolutely no corrosion issues. Some of the chrome work has been renewed, some is still original. The wood floor sections have been replaced with quality marine pine, the original panels were used as templates so the new floor even has the trap doors to access the jacking points to ensure it is all as original. The Bijur lubrication system still functions correctly and recently the Rover has been treated to a new exhaust system. DYU 438 is such a time warp retaining so much originality and due to its ultra-low mileage, has managed to retain a stunning original upholstery. The paintwork is totally original and looks great with true genuine patina. The chassis and underside are exceptional, this car has never been exposed to salt and Britain's winter weather. The Rover is mechanically just lovely with a fabulous low mileage engine that has been inspected and confirmed to be in excellent order. The gearbox changes are smooth and the Rover drives incredibly well and has proven completely reliable over the past 36 years covering 10,000 gentle miles. The Rover was regularly MOT tested throughout the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's and still retains its original brown ‘buff' logbook. This is an unrepeatable opportunity, there will not be many 1930's Rovers this original, let alone with such an impressive low mileage and so usable. This isn't a car to miss, it's a true collector's piece and a car to cherish.
