I bought this car a couple of years ago as an Australian import. It has no rust issues and as far as I can see has never been welded and even the jacking points and crows feet (photographed) are original. I wanted an automatic as they have a larger transmission tunnel to accommodate a five speed gearbox without any bodywork modifications. Extensive modifications have been made to the car all undertaken by Vicarage, the Jaguar specialists as follows.
Five speed gearbox with fully synchromesh but retaining the original style gear lever and gear knob
Powered rack and pinion steering.
Modified coil sprung rear axle to replace the old leaf springs
New front springs.
4 New Koni classic shock absorbers
Aluminium high performance radiator with electric fan cooling
New wiring loom to under bonnet.
New engine mounts
New hi-torque starter
Complete front subframe overhaul with new bushes and powder-coated finish
Up-rated anti-roll bar.
New s/steel exhaust
New diff seals.
New crank damper
New half shafts bearings and seals.
New water hoses.
New powder coated spokes with spinners
Top of the range period Michelin tyres to include the spare
New discs and callipers were replaced all round with modern high performance items.
and and new fuel tank has just been fitted.
The Heritage certificate confirms that this was exported to Australia from new and it is in its original colour although the leather trim has been changed from blue to the current red which is in great condition. As can be seen in the photo, the dashboard top rail has faded in the Aussie sun.
Tens of thousands have been spent on making this car what it is today. It shows great oil pressure, never overheats, doesn't smoke or leak any oil (ultra rare).
The patina of this car is exceptional. It is NOT concours but a fabulous example of the marque that you will find hard to beat at this price.
