Rally Preparation Services are delighted to have been asked to offer for sale this truly magnificent Long-Distance Pioneer Category rally car, appropriately named “The Beast!”
It is widely known that the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company is considered to be the oldest manufacturer of fire trucks in the USA. As a company its history spans even further back with its timeline tracking all the way back to circa 1832, way before The American LaFrance Fire Engine Company being formerly named and then having its factory and offices located in Elmira, New York in 1903.
This vintage and most capable car was fully prepared and made ready in the true spirit of “Driving the impossible” for the 2013 Peking to Paris Rally; it then campaigned the event a second time in 2016 achieving a notable finish by winning the pre 1919 Pioneer Class. Successfully arriving in Place Vendome on both occasions speaks testament for the sheer strength, robustness and build of this car.
Two finishes on the Peking to Paris rally confirms the reliability and strength of the car and firmly finds a place for this American LaFrance in the history books, being the only one of its kind getting to the finish and getting the job done, twice – both the car and same crew!
Its enormous weight of 3 tons along with being 5.3 meters long and 2.0 meters tall coupled up to its huge 6 cylinder 14,500cc engine absolutely make it the beast as it is named. Being in the presence of this car alone is somewhat breathtaking but when hearing and seeing the engineering come to life it is spectacular, watching the pure mechanics in action. The specification does not end with the basic dimensions – a twin system 500 litre fuel tank feeds the demand adding to the overall picture to cope with the duration of those long event days.
It is ready to go travelling anywhere around the world again after a thorough and intensive refresh and rebuild after its last outing – the car has been brought back up to its pre event condition with full post event works completed.
To drive the impossible in such an amazing car wherever that might be on the planet in a physical and spiritual way and in the footsteps of those early pioneers including Prince Borghese and his fellow participants of the very first Peking to Paris rally in 1907, is totally possible in this car.
The car is currently with the owner in Austria and is readily available for inspection through appointment. All viewings and test drives welcomed through direct contact with Rally Preparation Services.
