1955 BSA Gold Star Clubman For Sale
BSA Gold Star Clubman 500. This genuine machine left the BSA factory in Clubman trim in 1955. A well known bike that has been owned and ridden by me for over three years. It is beautiful to look at, but also wonderful to ride.
Don’t let anyone tell you that Gold Stars are inherently difficult to start. This machine starts easily hot or cold. A totally iconic motorcycle, it would be a great investment. Much loved, and well cared for, it is kept in my living room between rides, and only comes out on dry sunny days.
This Gold Star is an unadulterated Clubman, built with racing in mind. It has not been de-tuned, nor is it fitted with a modern Mikuni carburettor, Suzuki clutch, touring gearbox, electronic ignition or electric start! It is a fast bike, but for a high-compression single with its big Amal GP carb it starts easily and runs sweetly.
Fitted with a DBD34 engine, original RRT2 gearbox, Dunlop rims, big 190mm full-width front brake drum, Amal GP carb etc. This machine also sports many wonderful period modifications including a genuine Lyta fuel tank and ‘Adjusta’ engine and gearbox mountings.
It has a fascinating history, spending much of its early life in the U.K., then emigrating to the USA with its owner (a well known Clubman racer) before being shipped back to the U.K. and returned to road going Clubman trim between 2013 and 2015. The bike is in excellent overall condition, with the odd scuff or mark (shown in the photos) which is inevitable over sixty five years of use.
It has recently benefitted from an upper engine rebuild, and having only covered about 250 miles since is still being run in.
Videos can be supplied of the bike being started and ridden. Unlike many ‘Gold Stars’ on offer this is the private sale of a genuine, regularly ridden, and much loved bike from my small collection.
