JME is delighted to offer for sale this superb example of an Austin Healey 3000 MKIII phase 2. This Austin Healey 3000 MK III chassis H-BJ8/33000 was completed by JME Healeys in April 2019 for the existing owner and was commissioned as a full nut and bolt restoration to our customers’ requirements.
Built on the 30th September 1965, this example of the Austin Healey 3000 MKIII is a genuine Healey Blue UK ‘Home Market’ car. This car left the factory originally Healey Blue and its recorded destination dealer is Moir & Baxter Limited of Edinburgh. First registration being the 26th April 1966 and the car has remained in the UK its entire life.
The restoration was commenced by Hotham restorations and the inner structure assembled onto a new Hotham chassis. The chassis and inner structure arrived to JME requiring completion along with outer body assembly. The outer body of the car is all new aluminium, this includes the front & rear shrouds, front & rear wings, doors, boot & bonnet making this the lightest body combination available.
The engine was rebuilt to fast road specification by Hotham restorations. This included replacing the camshaft for a fast road type and the original cast iron cylinderhead for a new DWR aluminium fast road unit. The engine has excellent oil pressure hot or cold, runs smoothly and with no cooling issues. The car is fitted with its rebuilt original gearbox and rear axle.
This structurally is the best car money can buy. The products used to protect and paint the inner structure are the best available and the all-aluminium outer body work will not suffer with electrolytic corrosion. The car has superb panel gaps as would be expected from a fresh restoration.
During the restoration, our client decided sensible upgrades to enhance the performance and reliability of the car further. The original twin HD8 carb setup has been upgraded to triple HD8’s. The brake system was upgraded to dual circuit and running discs on the rear. The car is fitted with a negative earth conversion, electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump, high torque starter motor, aluminium radiator, overdrive, alternator conversion and 72 spoke painted wire wheels fitted with Blockley 185 radial tyres. An all new correct MKIII interior which has been fully tailored by our in-house trimmer to suit the car along with a correct matching hood and wet weather gear.
This was a no expense spared 100% restoration and undoubtably the finest MKIII currently available on the market. Ideal for touring or shows. This desirable rare UK 3000 MKIII is being sold on behalf of our customer and is offered for sale with UK V5C Registration Document, Heritage certificate, restoration photos and documentation, 2 sets of keys, a spare wheel spanner and hammer.
Fully documented restoration & itemised parts list by ourselves at JME Healeys since its completed restoration in April 2019 and with over 500 photos of the restoration process. Itemised parts list confirming the restoration costs. Commissioning a specialist to restore a Healey to this standard and specification would now comfortably exceed £135K GBP.
Currently running without the front and rear bumpers at the owners current preference, these can easily be added should the new owner prefer.
