1969 Daimler 250 V8 - 4.2L- ***SOLD on 1st viewing*** SOLD

The original idea behind this beautiful car was to create traditional looking, super reliable and fast classic car to travel throughout Europe with ease and in safety.

Unfortunately, over the years where all the work was carried out, it became clear that the car may be a little too small for our requirements for our family with a child with special needs. Hence, I bought an other much bigger classic car and why the car is now, somewhat reluctantly, up for sale for years of stylish enjoyment.

As explained later in this description, the car has been garaged essentially since new and unusually is not only completely solid underneath, this car does not have any trace of welding or panel replacement. Often remarked by any professional who worked on this marvellous car.
In terms of work carried out the list is long but worth reading to understand how the ambition was matched with the work performed:

Full XK 4. 2L engine rebuilt 1500 miles ago (Classic & Race – Sussex, a Goodwood events regular)
Full Automatic gearbox rebuild (Crucial Automatics - Fareham)
- New bespoke (Big Bore) Stainless Steel Exhaust (Twin Exhaust – Lovely rumble!).
- New Ignition 123 Electronic Ignition.
- New cooling system radiator & Kenlow fan.
- New gearbox oil intercooler & Kenlow fan.
- Bosch S5 Battery.
- All newly refurbished SU Carburetors.
- New Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres x5 (including spare).
- New Shocks all around.
- New front discs.
- Refurbished front brake callipers (3-pot).
- Refurbished rear brake callipers (2-pot).
- New EBC brake pads all around.
- New front springs.
- Newly refurbished alternator.
- New old stock rimbelishers (chrome - original - supplied separately)
- New front seat belts and rollers (Beige - Quickfit Safety Belt Service)
- Complete MkII tool kit.
- Original jack.
- New boot carpet.
- New fuel level sender.
- New SU fuel pump.
- All around LED exterior conversion (except headlights).
- One of the door top trim is split. A new one comes with the car.
- Original radio comes with the car.
- Refurbished starter motor.
- Multiple smaller elements replaced.

Of course, the car comes with a rather large file of photos, bills, etc..

Since the engine and gearbox build 3 years ago, the car has travelled less than 1500 miles with engine oil, all filters changed annually, irrespective of mileage.

In terms of the condition and pricing, I have adjusted the price of the car for 2 important items that the next owner should factor into before taking any further steps:
1) The central console will need to be finished: this means that it will need to be insulated and upholstered. The radio will need to be refitted and connected and the speaker console refitted.
2) The exterior paint work is excellent on 99% of the car. However, as we all know, a car isn’t finished until it is all perfect. There are 3 areas of blistering which will need attention.
Both of these elements ARE factored into the asking price and finding an equivalent, solid V8/ MkII once finished would cost more than twice the asking price for this type of stunning and reliable performance.

All in all, the car drives extraordinarily well and is very fast, without any squeaking from any part of the bodywork, transmission, suspension, etc. It also seems to be an eternal subject of discussion in pretty much any setting, whether it be whilst filling it up or on the lawns at Goodwood. People noticing the pleasant subtleties offered by the Daimler branding whilst listening to the engine rumble always brings a smile.
Thank you for looking at this lovely car.

For sake of transparency, this is the description of the car for the auction I bought the car from:
------------------------------------

“This very late Daimler 250 has been in the current ownership of 42 years, as part of a major classic car collection of an enthusiastic motor engineer. The car has covered circa 4, 000 miles in the past 30 years but has always been well maintained & kept in a heated motor house. The Daimler was the subject of a through restoration a number of years ago including a bare metal repaint in Jaguar Moorland Green with the correct lead loading of joints and seams. During these works, the owner decided to create the ultimate 60's "Q car" by fitting a 4. 2 XK straight six engine with around 220 bhp available but retaining the original & discreet Daimler features such as twin exhaust pipes & badging. This combination is said to have resulted in a very lively motor car that is much faster than the 3. 8 engined Jaguar MK2 of its day.

The Moorland green paintwork is complimented by the original, suede green leather upholstery and a perfect green cloth headlining. The car is thought to be one of the final Daimler 250's produced & registered in April 1969.

The car is offered complete with service History, which comprises of a stamped service booklet, previous MOT's dating back to 1982, original 1969 Log Book, plus later V5, service guides, an August 1977 tax disc, Lubrication Chart & various other items of ephemera. Offered for sale for the first time since 1971 due to the owner retiring from driving. The car has benefited from much recent expenditure including new tyres, recently MOT'd and qualifies for free Historic road tax.

Described, by the vendor, as stunning example throughout!!”
---------------------------
(And this is when I bought the car and decided to bring it to the standard I want my cars to be!)

One last mention: as we are shielding because of our daughter’s condition, could I please ask any prospective buyers to equip themselves with face masks and gloves for any close interaction or for any test drive. Thank you for your understanding.

Here is a little video of the car: - details above
