This is my beloved 1970 Morris 1800 MkII 'S' in original Persian Blue. It has been shown at Goodwood. Affectionately nicknamed 'Landcrab' the 1800 was BMC's range topping model for both the Austin and Morris brands. This spacious front-wheel drive saloon was engineered by Sir Alec Issigonis as the larger partner to his best selling Mini and BMC 1100-1300 models. The 1800 'S' was the performance model in the Landcrab family using a 97bhp BMC 'B' Series engine with twin SU HS6 carburettors, a four-branch exhaust manifold and servo-assisted three-pot front brake callipers. The tough 1800 was a popular choice for long-distance rallies.

The Morris 1800 and its Austin badged sibling, was once a common sight in the UK, but I have searched on the 'How many left' website and now less than 10 examples of this Morris derivative are believed to be left on our roads, including this one.

It is in excellent condition for its age, having been rebuilt after many years in storage by a member of the Landcrab Owners Club, he happened to be parts secretary at the time and many new parts were fitted including much new chrome. There is a 5 part report on the rebuild in the Landcrab Owners Club magazine and I believe back issues are available. I have a list of the parts fitted which included:

Front Grill
Halogen headlights and bowls
Front indicator and sidelight assemblies
Wing repeaters
Rear lights
Wing mirrors
Front discs and pads
All brake pipes
Rear wheel cylinders
Rear brake shoes
Battery
Alternator
Radiator
Clutch, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder
Brake master cylinder
Brake servo
Brake hoses
Exhaust system complete
Electronic ignition
....and much more...

I took the car to Goodwood open day last year (2019) where it had pride of place on display in a row of sports cars (I have a pic or 2 to prove it) and it looked very splendid and attracted much attention. (Note the white board in picture was the board provided by Goodwood which they allowed me to keep, I'm sorry it does not show better in the photo.)

Now the bad part, which has been shown in the photo at the end. Although the interior and most of the carpets are the original items, the drivers seat has splits to the vinyl on the seat pan as you can see. This is really the only major flaw in the car. I intended to get the seat pan on the drivers side re-done. In addition the period Radiomobile radio is only fitted for looks, it does not work.

Very reluctantly I am forced to sell due to a tax bill and an upcoming move. Note there is currently an 1800 'S' on the Car and Classic website for £12995, one also sold recently for £9750 at Anglia Car Auctions, so grab yourself a bargain. It comes with an Owners Handbook and genuine Workshop Manual..
