1939 Standard Flying Eight Sweet Little Car For Sale
REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE £9,750 Built in Coventry in 1939 and returning to the road after a 52yr break. I offer this wonderfully sweet little car. It’s taken me 2 years to rebuild her. She came to me as a rolling shell & chassis. No lights, wiring, floor or seats, but also with no rot ! She now has a floor, a dash, wiring, new dynamo (12v), LED lamps throughout, a rebuilt 4 speed gearbox, recored radiator, new full tonneau cover, recovered seats & matching interior panels (in what I believe are original colours). A 12v starter, electric pump & windscreen wiper. She starts and stops and all bits do as they should and it is so much fun to drive. People always wave as this sweet wee car passes by. Most have never seen one before and think it must be a Morris!! I’ve added an extra tail/brake lamp, as it originally had only one. Also I’ve replaced the challenging-to-see trafficators with Indicators for safety. However, the wiring and spaces for trafficators is still there should someone wish to revert. All lamps are LEDs, so nice and bright with low current. I have not repainted the body. I think the slightly imperfect paint adds to the character of the car. I have spent almost £6000 to bring this joyful motor back to life, and loved every minute of it. I do not expect to recover my own costs. I consider that my payment for the joy of doing the work. At some point before I had the car it had a post war engine and gearbox fitted making it easier to drive. It does not have a hood. However, I have constructed a hood frame. So if you wish to add a hood it’s an easy job. My thought is it’s hardly ever going to be out in the rain, so why worry! The tonneau is all the protection needed . I have another project to be getting on with so the tourer has to go to make space. I have managed to trace some of its history while its original registration number was being applied for. All available historic documentation is included in the sale. I’ve even found the family who bought it originally in Evesham! There are suggested to be only 14 of this prewar model left in the world.
