For sale is “Polly”, my 4-door 1967 Morris Minor 1000 in restored condition, with a full and interesting history to boot.

As a keen young enthusiast, I purchased Polly in 2016 and have covered around 3000 happy miles in this duration. She has been mostly used for high-days and holidays, retreating to a warm and dry garage when not in use. The car has been well maintained, with regular comprehensive services and no expense spared where necessary; new parts fitted in my ownership include steering gaiters, tyres and a battery. Although an MOT is not a necessity, it is worth noting that Polly passed her last test in November 2018 without any advisories.

In terms of decorations, Polly won her class (4-door Saloons) at the 2017 East Midlands / MMOC branch national rally at Newstead Abbey. In November 2019, Polly was proudly displayed on the MMOC stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show - where she drew many compliments and admiring glances.

OYB 655F was first registered on the 17th of October 1967 to a G. Fowle of Wellington, Somerset, having been distributed by Richardsons Garage. However, by 1972 the car had made its way up to Sleaford, Lincolnshire - where it was purchased by a gentleman as a replacement for an earlier (Split-Screen) Minor. Said gentleman kept OYB 655F until his death, whereupon it was inherited by his daughter. In 1982, the car was sold to D & A Motors of Stamford - who set about undertaking a serious amount of work on the car. New wings and sills were fitted, the front doors re-skinned and the whole car comprehensively re-sprayed in its original Almond Green. Also at this point, servo-assisted front-disc brakes were fitted - which the car retains. In 1983 the firm sold the nicely revamped car to a lady, who would keep it for a further 33 years!

Although originally purchased as an everyday car by said lady, the now-christened ‘Polly’ would soon become a well-cherished possession. In the 1990s, the car featured in an advertising campaign. Expenditure in the decade before I purchased the car included the fitment of a radio, unleaded cylinder head, halogen headlights and stainless exhaust system. The interior was also professionally retrimmed in high-quality materials.

Today, the car presents very well; with bright paintwork and chrome all around. She starts on the button, providing very willing performance and a crisp exhaust note. As of the time of advertisement, the odometer shows 70,792 miles - a figure certainly believed to be genuine.

As a university student, I have made the difficult decision to part with Polly - I would love to see her go to an equally appreciative owner who could get more use out of her. I feel you shan’t regret viewing this very special car - and with an official MMOC valuation of £7,750 -, she is well worth the asking price. The car comes with a wealth of paperwork & bills verifying its history and value.
