So why is this lovely 911 3.6 advertised for only £9,995. Let me explain...

Supplied by Northway Porsche in April 2016 to a good friend of mine (3 former keepers, 4 in total), the car was diagnosed with an engine bore scoring issue a few months ago. It was using a little oil and had one sooty exhaust but still performed well. Sadly the owners health has recently deteriorated to the point where he hasn’t driven for some time and is unable to deal with the sale, leaving it stored under a car port. He has now accepted it should be sold so I am acting as the sales interface because his wife has enough on her plate. Should you be interested I will answer any questions you have. If you wish to make an offer to buy the car and we agree, you can then collect it directly from her in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire.

Just prior to him no longer driving, Northway diagnosed the early onset of bore scoring despite having covered under 57,000 miles and being well cared for. This was flagged by an increase in oil consumption and one slightly sooty exhaust - I have the “borescope” photo they provided following an inspection and a written diagnosis. Northway quoted around £6,000 to fix the issue in a way that should give “many thousands of miles motoring”, but also advised a full rebuild would cost more. The diagnosis from Brookspeed Ltd. says “Heavy scoring to 1 & 6, light/medium in 3,4,5, couldn’t access 2 due to seized bolts on coil pack”.

The car has been Bill’s pride and joy, taking him to many Porsche Club meets and Le Mans a few times. Now it sits with a flat battery but still under cover awaiting rescue, perhaps by an enthusiast, fellow PCGB member or garage owner with facilities to fix it.

Forgive me if I don’t know every detail, but what I do know of the specification is below;

In terms of overall condition there are some scuffs to the body here and there, due to a deterioration in his ability to drive. These are low speed parking scrapes coming on and off the driveway, etc, and and to the best of my knowledge no actual accidents have befallen the car. With some attention to these cosmetics and a repaired engine, this will be a beautiful and thrilling 911 once more.

It is a lovely colour combination and specification too and I am told it still drives and performs as it should, but of course you will be taking that chance and would in any case want to repair it before the engine issue worsens. I would have taken it on myself but for my own classic car habit(!), so the first genuine and sensible offer from a buyer willing to provide a hassle-free sale and collection will see you acquire a cheap 996.

I am aware that a good manual 2WD 996 Carrera S 3.6 with low mileage will fetch between £16,000 and £19,000 and that prices seem to be on the rise, so I feel the advertised price is very fair. However, a near offer from a genuine buyer able to collect will be enough to buy it.

Collection will have to be by trailer from Chandlers Ford, Hampshire as the battery is now flat. Having said that if you can get it started I expect it will drive absolutely fine. Please no time wasters as the family have enough to contend with and you can reach me on the number below to discuss.

Please Note: The private plate is being removed so it will revert to EY53 C**
