There’s nothing quite like an early 70s MGB GT. The perfect mix between 60s sportscar design and the refinements of the later cars. These cars are a fantastic investment, with prices rising all of the time.

This car is no exception, and I feel you’ll struggle to find a better one for this price. It’s had a great deal of work during its life. The ‘feel’ of the car, both in terms of build quality and the way that the car drives, clearly shows that the standard of work carried out has been very good indeed.

We sold this car around 4 years ago and the owner has covered little mileage in that time - we were more than happy to buy it back and are looking forward to finding the car a new home!

The history and letters from previous owners show that the car was kept off the road from the mid 70s until the turn of the century, whereupon the car had a full rebuild. Therefore, the mileage of 37,000 would appear to be genuine, and judging by the state of the shell, engine, etc, I would say that this could very well be the case. A heritage certificate is also included, which shows that the car has always been Flame Red and still retains its original engine and gearbox.

A full rebuild was undertaken between 2000 and 2004 where a great deal of panels were replaced: full front wings, rear wings, door skins and much more. The car was resprayed professionally and the finish is still very nice.

The car fires up beautifully idles healthily. It pulls strongly and sounds great. The car also rides particularly well and the brakes also lock up nicely. The car is properly soundproofed so doesn’t clatter and bang like so many BGTs do – it’s a really nice thing to drive. Oil pressure is spot-on and the car does not overheat. A Kenlowe electric fan has also been fitted. The heritage certificate shows that the car was non-overdrive, and this is still the case. Don't let this put you off as non-overdrive cars had a different rear axle meaning that the final drive gearing is almost the same. An oil cooler is fitted, along with electronic ignition.

Bodily, the car is very nice. Door and wing bottoms are all solid, as are the wing-top seams, and scuttle panel. The car has clearly been repainted professionally – it has a very deep finish and a fantastic shine. Obviously there are a few imperfections here and there as it’s been 20 years since the car was painted – it’s not a concourse car, but as you can see in the pictures, it presents very well indeed. The car appears to be completely solid throughout. Sills, castle sections, floorpans, chassis legs and spring hangers are all in good order. Chrome wire wheels are fitted, and the tyres have plenty of tread remaining.

The interior is lovely, too. The seat covers are in fantastic order. The original door cards are present, and the dashboard is in good order. A sunroof was fitted early in the car’s life, which works nicely and doesn’t appear to leak. The engine bay is clean and tidy, and could be detailed to make it even nicer.

All in all, this is a lovely little car that is absolutely ready to be used and enjoyed. You won’t find many cars that have been finished to this standard. I travel all over the country to view these cars and this one is particularly straight.

Of course, the up-to-date V5 document is present, and there is a folder of bills and receipts, and photographs of the rebuild. Of course, the car is both tax and MOT exempt but you will see from an MOT history search that the history is very clean!

Please note that I am unable to take viewings this coming weekend, from Friday 7th until Sunday 9th August, also communication might be tricky between these times.
