1976 Renault 16 TL Automatic.Very rare and seldom do 16's come on the market, as the few remaining usually change hands within the clubs, and I really don't think the opportunity to find one like this is going to come up anytime soon!
This is an original U.K. registered car, being bought in Stockport new, an lived locally all its life. It has been garaged all its life, which has kept this car amazingly rust free from new. It has NEVER been welded. If you know anything about 16's, you'll know how unusual this is. It has done an amazing 22,500 miles from new!
This really is, maybe, a unique car. Bodily it is in really nice condition. It has, as I've said lived all it's life in garages, which has been both a blessing and a bit of a curse. Blessing because of it's rust free bodywork, but a bit of a curse because over the years it had picked up quite a lot of dents over its body as thing like lawn mowers, step ladders being moved and boxes being placed on its roof and bonnet had left their mark. I have had Dentmaster remove most of them, with just a few small ones left on the roof. I've had the bonnet, boot and bottom half repainted just to correct a few paint faults, as this car definitely worth it. I've also sourced a new rear boot badge, rear light lens to complete this wonderful little car. It had it's original Michelin X tyres on it when I got the Renault, which I have swapped with new tyres, and I have sympathetically fitted rear seat belts, for safety's sake,so all the family can go out in it. I have just recently Dinotrol rust proofed it. It would be criminal to let this rust free 16 to the way of all other 16's and dissolve in a few short years. I have absolutely drenched EVERY nook and cranny of this car with cavity wax, using three gallons of the stuff in the sills, pressings and box sections. When I got the car, under all the wings was still body colour! I have the photos to prove. I have done under the arches and under neath in black wax, as I want to be able to jump in this car all year round and be able to use it with a clear conscience!
Mechanically, it is in really good order, as you would expect with such low miles. The engine is sweet, the gearbox is very good, and changes as it should, and suits the 'soft' nature of the car. I have fitted a new master cylinder, and overhauled the brakes. It even has its original Renault exhaust on it!(granted it has been repaired) original dampers etc. The interior is in lovely condition, and unusual, as this style of velour fell to pieces with sun damage and wear when they were only a few years old. There are two small cigarette burns on the rear seat, and the decorative stitching has come away about an inch. There is a crack on the dashboard near the ashtray.
I bought the car of the nephew of the original owner. He was the Barclays bank manager in Bramhall, after he died his widow kept the car, as she chose it originally, because of its comfort, and paid someone to chauffer her when she needed to go somewhere! When she died her nephew inherited it and after using it for a fortnight thought it was too good to use everyday, which was great foresight as this was about 1989 and it was only 13 years old at the time. That would be like someone saving an 07 plate Laguna now!
Anyway, I bought it off him after he had sold his garage and have been tinkering with it since. I had the paintwork done last year, and because of lockdown, I've had chance to get it back together.
Any job I've done on this car, I've done with the idea of reliability, with a plan for european tours, which it will do superbly, being supremely comfortable, quiet and economical, and being capable of daily use.
I'm offering it for sale as I'm looking to buy a classic van for my business. I'm looking for an A60/Half Ton Van, and would consider selling the renault for one, but I'm not in anyway desperate to sell. I would quite like to enjoy the fruits of my labours!
Anyway, there are a few marks on the car and I'm not claiming for it to be perfect, but I think it has to be unique opportunity to buy an R16 that is in original, unrestored condition with very low mileage.
Oh, It also comes with a genuine Renault 16 roofrack.
The car will come with 12 months M.O.T.
I've just completed a 250 mile tour around North Yorks, and the car performed faultlessly.
Please feel free to come and view.
Any questions, please ring me.
Car is located in Denton, Nr. Manchester.
Thanks for looking.
