After the TR2 and the TR3 in the 1950s, the TR3 was introduced in the 1960s. Each one of these models was fitted with an inline four-cylinder engine. But this no longer proved a match for the much more powerful 6-cylinder engine of Porsche, MG, Datsun, etc., which was used increasingly frequently.
To counter the competition, Triumph launched its TR5 in 1967, which was fitted with a 2.5L, six-cylinder engine with a mechanical fuel injection system. The design remained largely the same.
By 1968, it was clear that the design of the TR range was hopelessly outdated. Karmann of Germany was given the job of restyling the car, resulting in a brand-new front and rear, more space for wider wheels… The TR6 was officially launched!
The TR6 was powered by the same engine as the TR5. The 2.5L engine with an output of 150 bhp featured a four-speed manual transmission (with optional overdrive). This, combined with independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc brakes at the front, turned the car into a real best-seller.
A total of 91,850 cars were produced until 1976.
‘Collection by Vermant’ is very pleased to offer you this Triumph TR6 from October 1974. It has its original matching numbers 2.5L, inline six-cylinder engine, with an output of 150 bhp. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels with a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive!
On 28 November 1976, the car was shipped from the UK to ‘British Leyland Motors’ in New Orleans, U.S.A. The ‘New White’ TR6 has a black interior and comes with several options, including a heater, a tonneau, a laminated windscreen, retractable seat belts…
In 1988 – with 54,000 miles covered -, the TR6 returned from Louisiana to the country where it was originally produced where a long-term rejuvenation commenced.
In the following 18 years, major investments were made in the car. The TR was fitted with a brand-new body (Moss), the engine was revised, the interior restored and the rubber seals renewed… The car was finished in a stunning combination of ‘Signal Red’ with a tan interior.
The mechanics also underwent a complete overhaul. Some modifications were made to improve comfort and make the car more user-friendly. The car was fitted with hydraulic power steering, an additional oil cooler, an electric cooling fan, a stabiliser bar…
Twelve years later, the car has just 9,250 miles on the odometer and is still in mint condition.
The body has good panel gaps, and the paint looks impeccable!
The Triumph comes with a Heritage Trust document, a copy of the American title, invoices from 1990 to the present, vehicle registration documents…
