Austin A40 Farina Mk2 1960 Speed Hillclimb/ Race Car Project
For sale here is a great opportunity to build a very distinctive Historic Racing Car.
These are most appealing in comparison to Minis due to being rear wheel drive. If you haven’t seen them sliding around Goodwood please follow this link for some inspiration: - details above
When done this car could be made suitable for various series, Historic Touring Car Cup HSCC, HRDC Academy, Goodwood, FIA, National Hill climb Championships etc.
The Mk2 is a desirable little racer. It has a wider track than the A35, with rear inboard dampers, and better aerodynamics thus has superior handling.
The car has been stripped out and partly built.
It’s an all steel shell so ideal to build for the above series and has the following parts fitted.
• 6 point Safety Devices Roll-Cage
• Quick release racing steering wheel with Sparco Boss
• Fibreglass front wings
• Perspex front windows with sliders (standard windows there too)
• 13 inch Mini lite wheels with Avon tyres
• Original dashboard with race accessories, master, start, fuel pump etc
The car had been mot’d and on the road up until a few years ago, so its not been rotting away in a damp field for 20 years!
It comes with complete original green interior, seats carpets glass bright-ware which is all fairly nice. Good to have as some race series require the seats to be fitted. ( The clever people strip out the seat inners to save weight).
Wiring loom is complete as well as original dials. Could be refitted as is or thinned out depending on use.
Lots of parts and spares also with the car. Fuel tank, springs, hubs, standard wheels, paint etc. etc. (please see pictures)
Bodily for a 60 year old car she’s pretty solid. The paintwork is generally very presentable in a striking turquoise/ white combination, all glass good and present.
The body will require some minor welding. Engine bay is good, floor good, Sills not bad requiring a few minor bits of plating. The worst rust is one rear spring hanger which needs some attention.
It is road legal and due to age is now TAX and MOT exempt. It comes with V5 in my name with an unusual age related registration.
So there you have it, with a race seat and a well tuned A-series engine (ideally a 1275) it could be a very competitive little car!!
Should you prefer to use it for Hill Climbs and Sprints etc I have a Vauxhall C20XE Red Top 2.0 litre Twin Cam engine which you could fit in there. The Vauxhall engine is for sale separately for offers around £1000.
It is a reluctant sale but with current work commitments and too many other projects I am simply never going to have the time to build this car. An almost identical restored A40 race car is currently advertised by Bradley James Classics for £44,995.
