1969 MGC GT -MANUAL + OVERDRIVE, SUPERB CONDITION For Sale
EQUIPMENT
Wire wheels, overdrive in third and fourth, heater, Weather Shield folding sunroof and tinted Perspex visor / wind deflector, 5. 5”inch front driving / fog lights, rear fog lights, full set of MG mud-flaps. Chrome display / trophy bar. Quality outdoor car cover included.
EXTERIOR
Presented in the wonderfully original, factory period shade of Pale Primrose, which so suits the profile of the MGC GT.
All the bodywork remains in an extremely fine condition, with no sign of corrosion or defect, having been subject to exhaustive improvement over the years. This includes a documented full bare metal respray and restoration from January – May 1997, with further improvements carried out in April 1999. All chrome work, including over-riders is in outstanding condition, bright and gleaming with not pitting or fading whatsoever. The Weather Shield folding sunroof operates precisely as intended as appears as new. All glass and lenses are unmarked, with no evidence of any crazing, scratches or damage. Both rubber door seals have recently been replaced.
INTERIOR
Judging by their condition, the black leather seats coverings with white piping must have been replaced recently, as they appear in remarkable condition. The original steering wheel retains the leather protective covering. Floor and central tunnel carpets, again, appear in a top condition, hinting at recent replacement. Door cards are also virtually unmarked. All switches, dials and instrumentation operate efficiently, and remain in first class order.
The boot space has also been well covered with recent carpeting, including both side pockets.
The full size spare wire wheel, original tool bag, jack and soft hammer are all present and stowed under the boot floor, in wheel well.
SERVICE HISTORY & PROVENANCE
Can only be described as remarkable!
One of the most comprehensive detailed service records we have ever seen.
Housed in its very own storage chest, more than two, 4” thick ring binders, a complete photographic record of the historic restoration works, accompanied by trophies, prizes, cups, winning rosettes etc, plus numerous copies of period literature, original handbook, sales brochure and BMC parts manuals.
An extremely well known and highly regarded example among MG and Classic Car Enthusiast circles.
Build date 22nd – 23rd October 1968. Dispatch date 25th October 1968 - making this one of the very last Series one MGC’s ever built.
Supplied by City Motor Company Ltd, Cardiff, Wales and still retaining the original Cardiff registration number.
Although the current V5 registration documents only indicates 3 owners, we believe that, in fact, there have been six. Two from the same family, and the last owner for 24 years, from 1996 – 2020. The first, a lady owner, Mrs. Roberts from Cardiff.
Alongside a dedicated programme of regular, routine maintenance, this lovely MGC has benefited from many highly desirable and considered upgrades, which have further enhanced the drive and desirability of this very special, popular classic.
Just some of these improvements include, Downton specification six branch exhaust manifold, Newtronic ignition, Spax adjustable front gas shock absorbers with Koni fitted to the rear, braided brake hoses with silicone fluid, anti-tramp bars, uprated ¾”inch front anti-roll bar, Lumenition electronic ignition, Oselli unleaded cylinder head, MG Motorsport distributor, Kenlowe electric fan, drilled and grooved front discs brakes, Big Red front calipers, brake pads, water pump and hoses replaced, clutch slave and master cylinder replaced, alternator replaced, new anti-tramp bars, stainless steel exhaust, spin on oil filter conversion, twin Bosch front fog lights, twin rear fog lamps, new fuel tank and sender unit, new thermostat, oil filter low version kit, handling kit, high ratio rack and pinion steering, plus a quality outdoor car cover.
There are 35+ previous MOT certificates, 22 original road tax discs, 3 registration documents, two British Motor Heritage Certificates, plus invoices for thousands of pounds invested into the lovely “C”. Details of all previous owners is also recorded in the history file.
Only made for a very short two year period, from 1967 – 1969, there were 8999 MGC cars produced in total, of which 70% were exported. However, just 1405 roadsters and 2030 GT’s were ever sold in the U. K, making these wonderful, long distance tourers a rare sight on British roads.
THE DRIVE & ENGINE
What better recommendation, or road-test, could there possibly be, than a recent 5 hour return journey, in all weathers, from torrential driving rain to 34 degree sunshine, and all driving conditions. Fast motorway cruising with ease, thanks to the fully operational overdrive system in third and fourth gear, and retaining total composure while in heavily congested traffic. Temperature remaining stable with no sign of over-heating as the upgraded cooling system operated efficiently. The MG performed admirably, taking all within its stride.
The power delivery is quite an unexpected surprise, having plenty of torque low down and plenty of power when required.
Easily keeping pace with modern traffic, this wonderful MGC GT would make a superb addition to any enthusiasts collection or garage.
