The original Green ‘buff' logbook confirms OYR 280F left the factory in White, was first registered on the 17th October 1967 to a lady, Doctor Johnson in Pinner, Middlesex. Early services are recorded on the original Renault Guarantee Folder. Renault Limited, Acton, London serviced the car at 3001, 6144 and 9402 miles. Statham Limited in Pinner then serviced the Renault at 12177, 15300 and 17838 miles before Renault Limited at Acton took over servicing again at 20968 and 24626 miles. Two further service stamps are recorded at 27297 and 28874 miles in 1974. MOT's show the Renault was last tested in Middlesex with its first owner in 1976 at 33843 miles and it then spent several years off the road, being re MOT tested with its second owner in 1983 in Waltham Cross and service receipts from this period are still with the car, many from Renault main agents Mitchell & Walsh Ltd in Enfield.
In 1987 The car changed hands for the third time, moving to nearby Hornchurch in North East London where it stayed with one owner for 21 years. In 2008 the Renault sold to its fourth owner, the then Club Vice Chairman based near Barnet. It was during this time the car was subject of restoration work carried out by marque specialists JL Engineering in London including upgrading the car with a totally rebuilt Alpine A110 1380cc engine. Invoices for a significant amount of mechanical work are with the car. Five years later, the Renault was in Enfield before selling to one of our long term clients who has cherished and nurtured the car as part of his multi car show standard private collection. We took the car in part exchange in 2019 and sold the Renault at the Goodwood Revival to another one of our long term customers. Wtih space at a premium, and another two recent purchases from us in 2020, the owner has decided to part with the Caravelle and enable someone else to enjoy owning this very special car.
Today the Renault still presents in outstanding condition with a truly superb, stunning straight bodyshell that gleams with superb paintwork and chrome. The interior is beautifully finished with stunning largely original upholstery, re-trimmed carpets and hard top headlining. Various interior chrome work has been replaced and the inside of the car is ultra-stylish with a real art deco 1960's feel with some beautiful original features in place. On removing the factory hard top the car is ideal for summer use and it really is glorious to drive. Its smooth, quiet, classy and very lively offering a wonderful driving experience. This must be one of the best in existence and is a former ‘concours' winner that has been kept in outstanding showroom condition. We love finding cars like this, it's a great find and will not be easily replaced. The Caravelle comes with its original logbook, early stamped service history folder, service invoices, restoration invoices, over 30 MOT certificates, original brochures, manuals and handbooks.
