This is a lovely example of the breed. The Eldorado was the top of the Cadillac tree, the ultimate “personal luxury car”. The car was a statement of your success and standing; very prestigious.
The ’76 Eldos featured four wheel disc brakes and a few very minor styling changes over the ’75 models. It was the last year for the 500 cubic inch V8 (8.2 litres!) – the biggest production engine fitted to any car until the Dodge Viper of the late 90s (and Chrysler took that from a truck anyway)
It was to be the case that 1976 was the last year for American-made convertibles. The Detroit Big Three expected the US Govt. to legislate to stop convertible production, so all rag-tops ended in, or by, 1976. The Govt. did not follow through with such legislation (what’s that – politicians doing a U-turn? W4nkrs!), but American manufacturers did not offer a home-grown convertible again until the mid ‘80s (possibly the C4 Corvette in ‘83/84). Because of this sales were really strong for the ’76 Eldos. In fact Cadillac could have sold more but they ran out of roof frames and mechanisms. Many Eldorado convertibles sold for way over List Price as people fought to own the last American convertible. I guess the late ‘70s convertible market in the States was Christmas for the Germans, Mercedes SL in particular.
Despite their popularity when new, good examples today are hard to find. The best, lowest mileage cars in the USA are fetching around $50K. Good luck with that on today’s exchange rate.
Now, about my Eldorado for sale here. Cosmetically this car was restored, in the UK, about 15/16 years ago. It was a good quality restoration and it has held up very well. The car was fully painted in a shade that is very close to the Cadillac offering of Dunbarton Green. I have the paint code and I have a tin made up for touch ups etc. A new white leather interior was installed, new green carpets and new white vinyl top was installed at the same time. The car can genuinely be described as very good condition, some might even say excellent. It is NOT perfect, but please note that I am not asking £30K either!
There is no rust.
In the last 18 months I have had the following mechanical overhaul completed:

I have spent a fortune on this car, so that you don’t have to! It is a great example that you can continue to improve if you wish, or use, enjoy and be proud of as is.
It is terrific to drive. Great in traffic, great at speed. No problem in hot weather. The engine is so quite that, at idle, you would be forgiven for thinking that it’s not running. But, on the motorway is where this Eldorado comes into its own – it flies! It just devours the motorway and will cruise all day at 70/75mph. In fact you have to keep your eye on it otherwise you’ll find you’re doing 80/85, so free and eager is it to run and run. Truly brilliant. Want to attend a show long distance? No problem with this car. It will eat the journey for breakfast., and you will get many Smiles per Gallon!
The air conditioning is disconnected. The parts go with the car, but the compressor is seized. I don’t need air conditioning in a convertible. If a future owner wants to repair/replace and reinstall, then good luck. My recommendation would be to install a brand new Vintage Air set up with new vents under the dash. The heater does work.
It has an eight track tape player. I assume it does not work. The radio doesn’t work, the antenna doesn’t work. I use a Bose mini speaker and play music from my phone.
Cruise control doesn’t work. I pay attention to the speedo.
Please do not waste your, or my, time by sending me a dumbass message like “What’s the lowest you’ll take for cash, mate?”. Come and look at, and test the car, it will impress you as a lovely usable example of “America’s last convertible”.
The car will be released after receipt of cleared funds. Preferred method of payment is bank transfer into my nominated account.
No part exchange. No finance facilities. No delivery.
18 feet 9 inches long
6 feet 8 inches wide
You will need a big garage or a quality five layer, breathable outdoor cover (available on American Ebay for about £130 after shipping and duty etc.)
Please ask the bill-payers permission …..
