This Mercury Club Eight Convertible was acquired from the Dirk Van Dyke auction at Syon Park. The car has had a full body off restoration sometime in the past and the underside is as good as the top, every nut and bold correctly plated. Since then the car has benefited from rewiring in the correct coloured cloth wiring, conversion to 12 volts with a modern alternator concealed in a traditional dynamo shell. New flathead engine with Edelbrock heads, an Offenhauser manifold, twin Stromberg carburettors, Mallory dual point ignition and a custom , twin exhaust, well over £14k has been spent on the engine alone. The original whitewall cross plies have been replaced with radials. Probably the only example in the UK. Starts on the button, has excellent brakes and can be driven with confidence anywhere. For sale on behalf of the present owner, who is not unknown to clock up 500 miles in one day ! May P/X
