The Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire was produced from 1962 until 1960. It was fitted with a 3.5 litre engine, initially with either manual or pre-selector gearbox until 1954 when a four speed Rolls Royce sourced automatic gearbox became available. Today, these beautifully built and styled saloons offer superb value compared with a Daimler or Bentley.

This car is a 1955 Sapphire automatic with an interesting history. The second owner discovered it in a warehouse in Harborough in 1982 although he’d known of it for many years previously. It was complete but forlorn and came with comprehensive history back to 1955. He bought it immediately and commenced an eight year restoration, stripping and rebuilding the car himself but handing it over to KEC motors in Leicester for a professional body refit and repaint. Years later he was contacted, through the club by the original owner’s son, now living in Canada who flew over to meet him and drive the car. The story of its discovery and renovation made the Daily Mail in 1995.

Today, this car presents very well as an older restoration. The colour scheme is perhaps the best for this imposing saloon – the beautiful shade of dark green shows better in the metal than in the photos. There are one or two small imperfections in the paint, as you would expect thirty years after restoration but it is best described as very good. The interior trim is in fine order, the wood in particular is excellent. On the road this Armstrong drives well. It’s covered few miles recently and gentle use will be required initially but we have carried out some test miles.

Come with comprehensive history file with documentation back to new, including original service books and bills, buff logbook, original sales brouchure, various old Mot certificates, aforementioned Daily Mail article.
