|June 1995 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 LSi Automatic. 74,681 miles. I’ve owned it since December 1995. Was used to commute to work each day until May 2008 (4 miles or so each way), but since then, it’s pretty much only been used for supermarket and other shopping runs and an odd drive out.|
The car runs and drives great. The body is generally in good condition, with no dings, other than towards the bottom of the front passenger door, where there’s a dent and some associated rust (my young nephew fell off his bike and the handle bar grip hit the door). Also the driver’s door lock mechanism has slipped, so I unlock the central locking via the boot lock.
The car has been parked on the street where kids play since I’ve owned it though, so there are the expected scratches. The front bumper is also pitted, plus the paint lacquer is peeling on the bonnet (a consequence of having to get it re-sprayed after I’d owned it one whole week, when someone not happy at me having a 6-month old car very kindly coined a 2 foot by 3mm strip across the front of it).
The inside is very tidy for its age, with no rips or tears in the seats, and no one has ever smoked in it. The sun roof has no leaks (and has never been used actually). The radio doesn’t work though – well it does, but it lost power when I changed the car battery, requiring me to re-enter the security code, and luckily for me the button you have to press on the unit after entering the code doesn’t work!! The head lining is also sagging with age, and has also come away a little on the driver’s side front pillar.
The MOT expires on 28/09/2020. There are some issues which I’m sure would cause it to fail, namely the washer fluid pump isn’t working, the hazard lights switch has to be wedged in, the fan heater has recently given up and the exhaust is a bit throaty. It’s also possible that the dashboard panel warning lights strip may be faulty, as the handbrake light stays on sporadically (with the handbrake off) and the ignition light has very recently started to flicker between on and off, even though the car starts and drives no problem.
It’s for this reason that I’ve decided to let it go, as I’m no mechanic, and didn’t want to pay for the repairs, so I’ve just bought a cheap replacement instead. Plus I’ve got nowhere to store it – if I did, I’d keep it for purely nostalgic reasons, as it was the first car I ever bought.
Given the above issues, I’m looking for £275 or a good offer – basically I’d like it to go to someone who hopefully wants to restore it, rather than it end up in a scrap yard.
Any questions, please just let me know. The car is being sold as seen with no warranty given or implied. Cash or banker transfer only please.
