This beautifully rebuilt MGB Roadster is a superb example, finished in its original colour, with all supplied with history dating back 50 years. OTW 185D is a genuine home market RHD car that was manufactured on the 19th October 1965. The MGB left the factory finished in Tartan Red, with Black upholstery and was supplied new by Stewart & Ardern Limited with overdrive, wire wheels, heater and mph speedometer. The car was issued with the Essex registration mark OTW 185D that is still with the car today.
The MGB comes supplied with Heritage Certificate, early history invoices and original Green ‘buff' logbook confirming the MG was in Basildon, Essex with its first owner. In 1968 Southend Aero Co Ltd owned the MGB and 1971 it changed hands, now with an owner in Barling Magna, Essex. Various invoices are on file detailing maintenance throughout the 1970's along with MOT certificates from 1972 to 1978. We also have a letter on file informing the DVLA that the MGB was being taken off the road in 1979 for a major restoration and it wasn't until 2011, 32 years later the MGB was subject of a major rebuild and put back on the road.
In 2011 the MGB was completely stripped down and the body completely rebuilt to an exceptional standard. The MGB was treated to various new panels to include front and rear wings, new boot lid and new castle rails, the bodyshell then prepared and re-painted in its original colour. The MGB was treated to all new chrome, all new rubber seals, chrome wire wheels and tyres and complete new interior and mohair hood. The MGB was mechanically overhauled with suspension, steering and brakes all re-commissioned, the gearbox was overhauled, the engine stripped, checked and treated to top end work, a new timing chain, core plugs, various oil seals and further work included a new clutch, new thermostat housing, new oil cooler, new stainless steel exhaust system, new coolant hoses, fuel hoses, various cables, new rev counter, speedo angle drive, electronic ignition and new propshaft UJ's amongst various other parts. In total £17,876 was charged for the restoration work.
Since completion in 2011, the MGB has covered around 7500 miles and has arrived with us in superb condition. The body is exceptional with superb straight panels, excellent gaps and gleaming Tartan Red paintwork and equally as smart chrome work. The underbody is excellent, the hood excellent and the engine bay finished to a show condition. The Red with Black piped trim work is in lovely condition, as are carpets, door cards, dashboard and panels. The boot compartment is superbly presented and the its clear the car has been restored with real attention to detail. On the road OTW 185D is a delight to drive with a superb, strong engine that holds excellent oil pressure. The engine performs perfectly with impressive performance and the overdrive comes in and out smoothly with a quiet gearbox and rear axle. The MGB handles beautifully with accurate, tight steering, offers a lovely comfortable ride with efficient brakes. This is an exceptional car ideal for touring, shows, rallies and events and should not disappoint.
