Here is the reluctant sale of my 1972 Triumph 2000 estate, in honeysuckle yellow with a brown vinyl interior, these were all hand picked off the line and coachbuilt by Carbodies of Coventry.
I purchased it in July of 2019 having been after one for a while, it had to be an estate that was manual with overdrive and this one turned up.
Unfortunately it did require some welding, which turned out to be quite a lot of welding, and the first 5 months of ownership were spent making it safe for UK roads. I replaced both front valance corners, repaired all 4 sill ends and the boot floor. I also repaired the LH rear arch although this could do with a little more finishing work. All rot has been cut out and treated before welding in the new parts.
This was all confirmed when it went for an MOT in June, so the big Triumph has MOT until June 2021.
As with any car of this age there are a few areas that could do with a little bit more love, ideally the car would benefit from a full respray as I have locally painted the areas that I have repaired, the worst panels on the car as can be seen from the photos are the RH rear door lower edge has started to blister, and also the leading edge of the bonnet however a new bonnet is supplied with the Triumph (although it is RED!)
The drivers seat is showing signs of wear, (please see photos) and would benefit from re strapping possibly.
Mechanically the 2 litre engine and overdrive gearbox are perfect, doing everything they should, with no hesitation when the overdrive gears are selected. The diff has got a slight whine, but this has never really bothered me and does not affect the way the car performs.
I will be sorry to see this car go, having spent a long time looking for one, but unfortunately it is spending more time sitting than being enjoyed these days and too many other project cars are taking priority.
The car is located in Coventry, and I would recommend viewing as whilst it is a very usable classic it is by no means perfect, but does mean that it can be enjoyed in all weather.
The car we offer has been produced only in the year 1949 beside the smaller 1800 Roadster well known from 1945.
