WILLYS MB JEEP 1945 (12Volt Conversion) For Sale
Production of the Willys MB, better known as Jeep, began in 1941, shared between Willys, Ford, and American Bantam. 8,598 units were produced that year and 359,851 units before the end of World War II. Willys–Overland ranked 48th among United States corporations in the value of World War II military production contracts. In total, 653,568 military Jeeps were manufactured.
The origin of the name "Jeep" has been debated for many years. Some people believe "Jeep" is a phonetic pronunciation of the abbreviation GP, from "General Purpose", that was used as part of the official Army nomenclature. The first documented use of the word "Jeep" was the name of a character Eugene the Jeep in the Popeye comic strip, known for his supernatural abilities (e.g. walking through walls). It was also the name of a small tractor supplied to the U.S. Army by Minneapolis-Moline in 1937. Whatever the source, the name stuck and on February 13, 1943, Willys–Overland filed a trademark application on the use of the term "Jeep" with the U.S Patent Office. After several denials by the patent office and appeals by Willys–Overland, the trademark "Jeep" was finally awarded to the company on June 13, 1950.
According to the Military Vehicle Trust Certificate this Jeep was manufactured 1st August 1945, Chassis number MB459292 was imported to the UK in 1993 and has been used on a private estate by the owner ever since, as he only used the Jeep to drive around his estate he never needed to road register the vehicle in the UK therefore the vehicle would need registering by the new owner. The Military Vehicle Trust Certificate and Shipping/ HM customs paperwork will aid this process.
In 2010 the owner spent over £1600.00 on defects in order to bring it up to standard, however the Jeep has been used very sparingly of recent years but has been dry stored.
A recent new starter motor and new battery has also been fitted as the Jeep has had the much needed 12 Volt conversion.
This Jeep is to be sold as a project car, as mentioned it will need registering and could do with some cosmetic work, one of the windscreen glasses is cracked, mechanically there are some items that will need addressing but none are serious items, the asking price reflects these items but you will get a genuine original MB Willys Jeep. We have had the authenticity checked out by Willys Jeep Specialists "Wheels of Old" who have confirmed the Engine, Body and Chassis are original, with so many Jeeps running on replacement chassis`s its good to know this Jeep is an original vehicle.
This Jeep is also fitted with a range of period accessories which include,
Dual antenna base mounting brackets.
Search light mounted to the NSF wing
Fire Extinguisher mounted to OSF wing
Steel Jerry car mounted on the rear.
Two period helmets
The jeep will be supplied with the canvas hood, but the brackets are missing for the hood but can be easily sourced from Jeep Parts.
