UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL TWIN CAMS PREPARED AS AN AMAZING ROAD CAR OR ALTERNATIVELY CAN BE PREPARED FOR FIA COMPETITION USE.

Following a complete nut and bolt restoration to the highest concours standard. The MG Car Club Safety Fast magazine published a six page article, not only about this incredible twin cams period competition history but also about its owner Sherman Decker, considered to be the greatest MGA racer of all time including works drivers. The article can be viewed on the MG Car Club website.

DETAILED WORKS INFORMATION

The body and chassis restoration was completed by Bob West, one of the highest regarded restorers of MGA twin cams, to a concours level including paint quality and door gaps.

The car then underwent a full professional rebuild by one of the most experienced MGA twin cam preparation experts in the country. The rebuild was completed to a very high standard with no expense spared and cost in excess of £50K, not including the cost of the original car. The quality of the rebuild is testament to the builder’s own twin cam race car which has completed over 40 races without a DNF (did not finish) which emphasises reliability as being the main objective.

MECHANICAL SPECIFICATION

The full engine specification is as follows:

New old stock works cylinder head fitted with new valves and re-ported, forged pistons, steel billet crank, steel con-rods, special main bearing end cap, rear oil seal conversion, new cams, new jack shaft, new gear chains, new water pump, new lighter steel fly wheel, Works-type alloy inlet manifold, competition clutch, four branch exhaust manifold and twin 45 webers.

The engine was built in house, with Mass Racing doing the final set ups and dyno tests showing 169bhp at 6400revs.

BUILT FOR

This car has been built for an owner that just wants the very best MGA twin cam for road use with an amazing driving experience due to the extra power and handling preparation. It also has very good investment value over and above a standard MGA twin cam.

Included in any purchase will be a full weather pack including a road screen and hood, tonneau cover and a set of side screens. Bumpers are also available to be fitted if wanted. Alternatively the car can be prepared for competition use with the necessary safety equipment supplied. FIA papers would then be just a formality. Either way this is indeed a very special MGA twin cam.

The car may appeal to an owner who already has an MGA twin cam that may require some refurbishment work. Therefore, a part exchange may be considered against this car.

SUMMARY

These iconic MGA twin cams are now becoming very rare and over the last 10 years have doubled in price, therefore making them a very sound investment. Average examples are now selling for around £45-50k and complete nut & bolt restorations to concours standard are reaching £55-60k. This particular car has undergone a total professional build to original works specification as it left the factory in 1959. The build was jointly undertaken by one of the most respected MGA twin cam specialists, Bob West and the final details of the build were finished by myself. I have restored over 10 twin cams to concours standard over the last 20 years and have also raced them with success. You should be assured that what is on offer is a genuine chance to acquire a unique car with a very special important history.
