1977 Mazda Capella Series 5 Coupe Rotary Race Car

Transmission: Manual
Exterior Colour: White

The Mazda Capella Series 5 Coupe Rotary needs little to no introduction. These Rotary powered cars have been literally screaming on the roads and just about every racetrack since they were launched. The Wankel motor remains a powerhouse marvel all these years later. When properly fettled in race trim, it is a tour de force of note!

South Africa has a fascinating history with the Capella’s since they were assembled locally…they have become very scarce nowadays and certainly in demand for collectors and petrolheads alike seeking the thrill that these vehicles offer.

This Race Car was campaigned successfully locally by a well-respected racing driver who has a collection of road and race going Mazda rotaries.

The vehicle has a long list of modifications – these are the important details:
• Engine: 1.3lt 13B Naturally Aspirated Bridge Port Wankel Motor with competition clearances, balanced with dry sump and correctly modified IDA and factory electronic distributor. Power approx. 190kw at 8000rpm
• Gearbox: ZF close ratio gearbox from Zackspeed escort (the escort was stripped after an accident in SA)
• Diff: Alfa/ZF lsd unit and axle
• Brakes: Brembo front calipers, Formula 5000 AP rears
• Fuel: Fuel cell and external pump arrangement.
• Suspension: Bespoke competition front uprights with competition strut assembly and Bespoke rear axle linkage
• Wheels: Compomotive turbo mags 15 inch
• Body: Glassfibre Bonnet and boot lids and Glassfibre rear arches and front arches.
• Extra’s that can be purchased alongside this: I Mazda Factory Race 13b Peripheral port engine complete with factory dry sump and new specially cast IDA and manifold for period racing. It hasn’t been run yet, so it’s fresh with Lanetti seals etc built by Rick Engman in the USA. Circa 300hp at 8500rpm. Invoices totalling 22k USD.

This is a turn-key race car in fantastic condition ready for the next racer to get busy on his local racetrack.

The car is currently located in South Africa with Road & Race Automotive in Cape Town. Road & Race has years of experience in shipping and selling vehicles into the UK using the trusted Freight Factory as their shipping partner. The price is inclusive of shipping and duties where the new caretaker can collect from the unpack warehouse near London Gateway receiving the car and all necessary documentation. IF, the new owner would like the car delivered to their door, MOT’d and registered, this is an additional service we can provide too.

Rare Japanese youngtimer. The car is in very good condition. Blue metal color. Engine runs smooth and quiet. Transmission works perfectly. Only driven 129,000 km. A car to be seen and experienced.<br />
