This is a very honest vehicle that I’m selling as it’s getting too much use! I bought this back in 2016 as a second vehicle for a bit of fun, however now it has defaulted to my daily driver. It’s honestly been a pleasure to use and reliable, however I think it would be better going to a enthusiast who could bring it up to top condition without much effort. It’s not perfect, but I don’t intend to hide those small areas that need attention. However it is very solid.

This is a UK factory spec (RHD) with twin differential locks, pretty much unmolested with a genuine 58’500 miles on the clock.

• 1.6D JX
• Original 14” heavy duty syncro steel wheels including spare. The tyres are virtually new.
• Bull bars including period Hella spotlights.
• Custom rear canopy - This is a ‘quick release’ design that can be completely removed within minutes. The canvas is poly cotton and is tight fitting behind the cab.
• Custom made roof rack – I made this rack to compliment the front bars, yet also allow for loading long items (such as kayaks / paddle boards etc), with a lower section which takes a roof top tent.
• Factory Westfalia tow bar.

This is genuinely one of the rarest variant of the VW transporter. Though being a T25, parts are easy to cheap to source.

The history of this truck is quite interesting, it was a ordered by a building firm in 1989, before the economy crashed, so when this arrived on the forecourt the business had gone bust. There it sat for at least a year before hitting the road. It changed hands a few times, then in 2001 ended up going into storage due to engine failure. It would appear the then new owner, a VW mechanic, purchased it from the garage in which he worked. He then proceeded to replace various parts, such as wheel bearings, Viscous Coupling, whilst it was in storage, eventually loosing interest and hence it sitting for 15 years.

I know all this as requested the history data from the DVLA when you could pay £5 and get all that info. It will come with all this paperwork and even a nice sales brochure from the era! I managed to track down this owner and have a chat with him.

The condition underneath is excellent. I have subsequently cleaned it thoroughly and treated any areas that looked like the could become problematic. It has had a full cavity rust treatment. The syncro bash plates are all there, the front panel was removed and painted with galv paint.

I had the engine completely rebuilt to deal with the failed bearing issue, this included the turbo and power steering pump.

Here is a list of items and maintenance work that has been completed in recent years. I have always replaced parts with the best possible quality.

• Engine rebuild, regular oil changes.
• New starter motor assembly.
• New injector pipes.
• New battery.
• Reconditioned turbo.
• Reconditioned power steering pump.
• Oils and filters changed all round; front differential, gearbox, power steering etc.
• Front disks and pads & splashplates.
• Rear drums and pads.
• Speedo drive (runs off front diff)
• Fuel sender unit replaced.
• Window washer pump replaced.
• New rear CV joints
• New steering column universal joint.
• New steering drumstick thingy.
• Rear heater radiator and resistor. (that is unusual addition in a doka!)

There are probably more items that I can't remember.

I have installed a 'leisure battery' and charging system to provide power to USB outlets in the rear and 12v to the pick up area. The canopy has also has a lighting system.

Bodywork

There are a few area’s that need minor attention, but I had the most serious work completed last year as there was some rot in one particular area near the fuel filler. I think it must have had one side exposed to the elements as the rest of the vehicle is fine. This was an unbelievably good all-metal repair from RP autoshop in Suffolk.

Unfortunately, the owner prior to me decided to have it cheaply resprayed in the original bamboo yellow. There are some small areas of over- spray on the window rubbers, but this would be resolved with new rubbers. However, I do have a full set of photographs from the body shop showing the condition when this was done.

The bed is also in surprisingly good condition as was sheeted in plywood most of it’s life. A few honest dents and dings where loads have shifted about.

Spare parts

I have a few spare parts that might as well go with it:

• Double bench front seat
• Rear heater radiator
• Brake splash plates
• Rear differential lock bracket
• Speedo cable (syncro specific)
• CV joints for front.
• Upper ball joint for front.
• Rear glass (currently has after-market tinted glass).
• Some hubcaps.
• Glovebox & rear electrics box.

Niggles and things that need doing.

Use the DVLA MOT history checker and you will see from the MOT history there might be an advisory on a upper ball joint. I have this part, just yet to fit.

• Rear diff lock – I released this and it was working just fine, but due to lack of use it does not activate. It’s an easy fix as just needs manually operating a few times.
• Dash fan – it can be squeaky when cold.
• Front CV joints
• Cab light bulb!

Please call me if you have any further questions. I am open to offers as unsure of the true value of such a rarity.
