1982 MINI HL ESTATE (CLUBMAN) - 12K WITH 1 OWNER, SUPERB! For Sale
CARS are only original once. They can win trophies left, right and centre when they have been restored to the hilt and - in some cases - wind up better than new. But you simply cannot replicate originality. And that's what we have here.
This is my 1982 Mini HL Estate (known as the HL in the final run but basically still a Clubman estate). Finished in bright orange, she is in amazing condition and, to the best of my knowledge, has never been welded. She has covered 12,000 miles from new and until a month or so ago, she had spent her life with the gentleman who purchased her at new. Since the late 90s, she had been dry stored. Thus her 12,000 miles had been covered in something like 15 years and considering that the car only "pottered about" locally, it all makes sense.
You certainly do not expect to see British Leyland bodywork like this on a car approaching 40-years-old. Her door bottoms (including rear doors) are incredible as are arches, sills (which look original) and floor pans. I have removed the spare wheel to photograph the wheel well. Her underside remains nicely undersealed and if you care to scrape a bit off here and there, then you will see the bright orange metalwork underneath.
She is just about as original as you can get. The interior is the later "up market" version used on the final run of HL estates and so the seats are in that Leyland check. Underneath the rear seat is like new also.
She runs beautifully and idles like a new car. Remember, one owner from new until a month or so ago and just a handful of miles covered in the past two decades.
She also has an MoT until August 2021 with no advisories.
This car is on the cusp of being Condition One and with some gentle work for a couple of hundred quid, she would be there and up for winning trophies.
If I am being picky, I would mention that the bonnet has a tiny scrape on the front lip and some touched up stone chip areas which have aged during storage. You could paint the bonnet and a tiny area above it in the offside corner where some paint has lifted. I can't imagine you would touch anywhere else on the vehicle whatsoever.
This is a unique opportunity and, as I say, cars are only original once. Totally un-molested and with just 12,000 miles. I note that one or two similar models are out there and advertised at five-figure sums. This is not. I took her for a spin this morning and she was great. Perhaps the clutch needs bleeding as it was fine once I had pumped the pedal a couple of times.
