1981 Laverda 981cc Jota 180 For Sale by AuctionBlessed with one of the most evocative names in motorcycling history, the Slater Brothers-developed Jota was the bike that really put Laverda on the map. Few major changes were made to the three-cylinder Jota prior to 1982 when a heavily revised version was introduced, complete with a 120-degree crankshaft that made for a more even firing order. One consequence of this was the instant elevation of the original version, which came with a 180-degree 'flat' crank, to iconic 'first-of-the-line' status among collectors. This Jota '180' was purchased by its late owner from Slater Laverda on 5th August 1997 at 23,037 miles (correspondence, MoT certificate, and sales invoice on file). Issued 12 months later, the next MoT certificate records the mileage as 23,221, while the current odometer reading is 23,224 miles. The tax disc in the holder expired on 31st August 1999 and it is believed the Jota has not been ridden since then. On file is a page of hand-written notes detailing various cleaning and servicing tasks undertaken in 2018/2019, while the final entry is dated January 2020. Additional paperwork consists of sundry bills and old/current V5/V5C documents. Unused for some considerable time, the machine will require recommissioning or restoration to a greater or lesser extent and is sold strictly as viewed. Accordingly, prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the condition and completeness prior to bidding. A (copy) workshop manual is included in the sale.
