Introduction.
This is an original UK delivery, M535i delivered new in May 1985. These E28s were made between 1985 and 1987 and consisted of the aerodynamic body kit, with unique and rare 390mm alloys and TRX 220/55 VR sports tyres, fitted to a standard 218 BHP 535i car, optionally with a switchable automatic gearbox. BMW quoted 0-100Km 8.9 secs and max speed of 138MPH (220KPH) on manufacture.
Ownership History.
The car was delivered new by Alec Norman BMW dealership in Bedford on 30th May, 1985 and first registered in Essex in June to Mr. J. Bussell of Granada TV Rentals. Cost new exceeded £19,000. The second owner was Mr. Chris Taylor, in London who purchased the car on the 7th October 1987. He subsequently sold the car on 31st March 1990 to his brother, Mr. Carey Taylor who garaged the car in Chiswick, West London and treasured it from 1990 until February 2015, when I purchased the car and exported it to Dublin, Ireland. The car shows 150,900 miles. The mileage is accurate and documented in the history file.
Condition.
The car has been maintained very rigorously throughout its life, which is evidenced by a full lever arch file of service invoices.
The car is in an exceptional rust-free condition and was subject to a (fully documented) cosmetic restoration in 2008 / 2009 managed by Derin Oloyede of BMW Classics. The factory fitted aerodynamic kit was partially removed during this restoration to produce a cleaner looking car while retaining the original TRX 390mm alloys, wheel arch extensions, rear boot spoiler and sports steering wheel. A BMW club inspection report is included in the history file to attest to the standard of restoration.
A Becker Mexico CD / Bluetooth Phone / IPOD radio has been fitted for a period appropriate look. The car has been subject to a complete automatic transmission re-build by AT experts Cassidy Motors at 148,000miles. The engine was subject to a full upper end re-build by Cardock in Dublin at 149,000miles. Recent maintenance includes dismantling and servicing all window regulators and central locking, replacing door and boor seals as required. In addition, 4 new Michelin TRX 390 VR tyres at a cost of €1250 have been fitted in August 2020.
The level of servicing and maintenance are such that the recorded mileage is almost irrelevant.
Service History.
The car comes with an incredible service history file, consisting of stamped service booklet and every maintenance and service history from 1990 to date. The history file includes communication between the first owner and BMW UK prior to ordering the car as well as the original sales brochures with hand notes of pricing and additional equipment. The original BMW service booklet is stamped with Main Dealer servicing up to 1990 and then Independent BMW thereafter.
