OK we confess we bought this bike without actually even seeing it. It was purchased at auction in early October 2019. It came with good provenance, several recent invoices from well established bike mechanics and looked (on screen at least) immaculate. We then waited several days for it to be delivered. Auctions are huge fun and there are bargains to be had but you can also make costly mistakes (We know we have, the Laverda being one). However this bike didn’t disappointed even the driver (From Chas Mortimer) reckoned it was ‘the best he’d ever bleedin’ seen’. We put the motorcycle through the workshop and frankly didn't have to do too much work at all as it was pretty much spot on. Firing the bike up did, I am delighted to say, set off the smoke alarms - lovely.

Some background

So Suzuki’s answer to the inline fours from Honda and Kawasaki in the early 70’s was not to imitate but innovate, or at least ‘simply’ make a bigger version of their three cylinder two stroke bikes. The only two strokes I’d ridden prior to this had been small capacity bikes, however this is a very different kettle ‘o fish. You have to admire the nads on the designers back then, you can imagine the discussions at Suzuki ‘Ok we have three cylinders … what do we do with the exhausts ? … three into one …. No … into two … maybe but how about … three into three ? … oh, screw this lets go three into FOUR’ there’s no logic or sense to this but man it looks bloody awesome. Nowadays we are slightly embarrassed by our exhausts and tend to hide them away poking out of fairings or under the seat, back then it was ..hey look at these puppies! And looks at the smoke this bike makes – because as we all know more smoke equals more power. The GT750 also had another great selling point, Barry Sheene rode it and endorsed it (check out the ad online) and Barry was just about the coolest man on the planet in the mid 70’s , if it was good enough for Barry, oh my it was good enough for a spotty teenager (not that we could afford it). The GT750 existed somewhere between the sense and sensibility of the CB750 and the ‘mad this bike will kill you’ image of the Kawasaki 750. It looked huge and even today it still cuts a very fine figure its looks haven’t really dated this is a handsome machine.

On behalf of the current owner I am selling this beautiful oldtimer. This very nice Suzuki GT750J has been owned by the same owner for 30 years. Now it is time to find a new owner. The engine is technically o.k., 1st paint job with a dent on the left front of the tank, which can possibly be removed from the inside.
