1930 Alvis Silver Eagle, Cross and Ellis, Clubmans, Drop Head Coupe.

Supplied new by Vincents of Reading, this 1930 Silver Eagle was fitted with coachwork by Cross and Ellis and registered to a Miss K M Crispe. This lady was clearly an enthusiastic driver as she specified the triple carburettor setup and servo brakes. The car was to pass through several owners before being laid up in 1962 in need of major work. In 2002 it was found and rescued by Mr M Boothman who, with the assistance of various experts, undertook a full and very costly restoration.

Offered for sale again in 2014, the father of the present owner acquired the car and also lavished much care upon it. An overdrive has been fitted which allows for relaxed cruising on longer journeys and just recently the clutch has been replaced along with the cylinder head gasket so she is in fine fettle and ready to go.

This fine, four-seater Alvis is presented in extremely good order and is of significant historical importance as it is the sole surviving example with its original, drophead coupe coachwork, of which only three were built. Five extensive files of documentation accompany the car, including many photos illustrating the restoration in progress.

The build sheets confirm that it retains its original, body, engine, chassis and gearbox. This is a true ‘vintage’ Alvis (a marque with excellent club spares and technical back-up) and is eligible for VSCC events.

Handsome, smooth, comfortable, reliable and ready to enjoy.

The car can be viewed in Suffolk (private sale).
